The Role

This role represents an outstanding opportunity to join Greening Australia for 12 months focusing on one of Australia’s greatest environmental challenges. You will play a key part in our national Great Southern Landscapes program, spanning from south-west WA across SA and VIC to include ACT, NSW and TAS.

Key Position Accountabilities

  • Working within teams to lead the design and delivery of technical studies (e.g. feasibility, detailed planning and design of restoration projects) in collaboration with the Project team supporting best practice implementation of ecological restoration and that integrates agricultural production, biodiversity, community co-design and social outcomes;
  • Undertake priority science projects (e.g. innovation, trials, technology), with the aim of improving GA’s ability to scale up, enhance delivery outcomes and improve likelihood of impact
  • Support the development of a nationally consistent project site database, mapping system, monitoring and evaluation framework / methodology for project sites for all GA projects.
  • Contribute to strategic initiatives of the Science and Design team with a focus on impact, technical approach and innovation.
  • Contribute to refinement and definition of GA’s focus areas and solutions for uptake by Commercial Development / GA Foundation / Operations including lead and support for specific activities.
  • Assist in positioning future internal and partner research capacity to solving issues of greatest priority/risk related to achieving enduring impact (increasing efficiency and effectiveness, reducing risk);
  • Contributes to documentation of Research and Development priorities (including people and nature priorities) for delivery in partnership with research providers.
  • Assist with the development of science-based solutions for refining and costing by Operations and subsequent uptake by Commercial Development
  • Assist in the preparation and submission of tenders and proposals as a subject matter expert

About You

You will join our Science and Design team as we scale up our efforts to restore and manage habitat, implement regenerative agriculture solutions and mitigate and adapt to a rapidly changing climate.

Your role as a motivated, innovative and enthusiastic Technical Specialist will be to apply your expertise to complex problems and projects, with a particular emphasis on ecological restoration, agricultural science and biodiversity. You will undertake planning, design and analyses, work with community, clients and partners, and find innovative solutions to guide on-ground action and increase our restoration impact.

You are action orientated, have a strong sense of sustainability and environmental ethics and a proven track record implementing holistic solutions across the corporate sector, government, natural resource management and other sectors.

Ideally You Will Bring:

  • Tertiary degree qualified in biology, ecology, environmental science/management or similar.
  • Demonstrated industry and/or consulting experience in ecological restoration, preferably with an emphasis on farmland revegetation and agricultural landscapes.
  • Well-developed conceptual and analytical skills, and ability to provide scientific and technical advice and ability to develop realistic responses to complex issues;
  • Excellent written skills including writing plans, reports and proposals.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team, show initiative and to work unsupervised.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills with experience in liaison with clients, partners and stakeholders.
  • Willingness to travel.
  • Current ‘C’ Class Driver’s License

Desirable:

  • Post-graduate Degree or similar (Honours, Masters, PhD) in a relevant field;
  • Experience or qualifications in the conservation or environmental sector, with an emphasis on the nexus between environment and people.
