about the role

We live in Southbank, Melbourne, with our adult son, who lives with autism. He likes to live in a quiet environment where his predictable needs and safety are well catered for. The right person can support him to do things he is comfortable and happy to do.

You will report to a designated supervisor and be responsible for various support tasks. These include providing personalised care, assisting with all aspects of the individual's physical and personal needs and offering consistent emotional and social support. You will maintain a comfortable and supportive home environment by assisting with meal preparation, ensuring that dietary requirements and preferences are carefully met and undertaking household tasks to keep the living space clean and organised.

A key aspect of this role is actively supporting our son's community access. You will be responsible for planning and accompanying him on regular walks within the CBD. This will involve:

  • Navigating pedestrian areas and traffic safely and confidently.
  • Providing clear and effective communication and support in public settings.
  • Being attentive to the individual's needs and preferences during outings.
  • Promoting the individual's independence and social interaction.
  • Managing any unexpected situations that may arise in a busy urban environment.
  • Creating a calm, safe, predictable, enjoyable experience during these community outings is paramount.

The services will be primarily delivered in and around our place in Southbank, 3006.

Hours will involve a minimum expectation of 2 shifts per week and up to a maximum of 3 shifts per week, including a minimum of 1 shift on the weekend. We will agree on specific days and times.

While a degree of regularity is expected, shift times may vary, and additional hours cannot be guaranteed.
