The Senior Specialist Family Violence Practitioner provides face-to-face and phone support to women and children experiencing or who have experienced family violence. This role requires extensive knowledge of family violence response strategies, including MARAM, to manage high-risk cases. It also supports the family violence team in building skills related to housing and homelessness, strengthening service connections, and delivering integrated care.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide specialist family violence response to women and children.
- Conduct MARAM comprehensive risk and needs assessments, risk analysis, and mitigation planning.
- Ensure children’s voices are heard in risk assessments and case planning.
- Deliver case management support to secure and maintain accommodation.
- Enhance team knowledge on housing and homelessness services, supporting complex cases.
- Develop partnerships with housing providers and homelessness services.
- Lead care team meetings and participate in collaborative service delivery.
- Provide psychoeducation on family violence trauma and its impact on children.
- Engage in secondary consultations and supervise student placements.
- Maintain accurate documentation, ensuring perpetrator accountability and victim safety.
Qualifications & Required Experience
- Relevant qualifications: Bachelor's in Social Work or Graduate Certificate in Family Violence (Rec 209).
- Sector experience: Family violence, housing, homelessness, high-risk case management.
- Risk assessment expertise: MARAM framework application for victim-survivor safety.
- Diverse community engagement: LGBTI, culturally and linguistically diverse, disability, and First Nations communities.
- Case management excellence: Addressing complex needs (trauma, mental health, substance use, parenting).
Desirable Skills
- Understanding of tenancy laws (Residential Tenancies Act).
- Experience in community housing support and real estate partnerships.
- Knowledge of family violence trauma in relation to accommodation security.
