Financial Wellbeing Coach

Good Shepherd Australia New Zealand

Are you passionate about empowering people impacted by family and domestic violence to rebuild their financial lives? Do you want to be part of a bold new approach to social service delivery that puts lived experience, trauma-informed care, and justice at its centre?

At Good Shepherd Australia New Zealand, we’re redesigning the way support services are delivered—through our Financial Independence Hub (FIH), we are creating a holistic, people-centred ecosystem that supports victim survivors of financial abuse on their journey to long-term wellbeing.

We are looking for a Financial Wellbeing Coach who will walk alongside clients as they take back control of their financial future.

About the Role

As a Financial Wellbeing Coach, you will work one-on-one with individuals who have experienced financial abuse, providing personalised support and coaching. You will help clients identify financial goals, build practical skills and confidence, and connect with wraparound services such as financial counsellors, community legal centres, and microfinance programs.

Operating in a hybrid model of virtual and place-based outreach, this role is perfect for someone who can bring both compassion and structure to highly individualised recovery journeys.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver trauma-informed, client-led financial coaching, helping clients set and achieve meaningful goals
  • Co-create financial roadmaps with clients and act as an accountability partner during their recovery
  • Facilitate referrals to financial counselling, legal services, and other supports in collaboration with the FIH team
  • Provide coaching in person, by phone, or via video – based on what works best for the client
  • Use culturally safe, inclusive, and strengths-based practice that respects the lived experience of financial abuse
  • Support group facilitation, workshops, and outreach events to increase program visibility and access
  • Keep accurate, confidential records and adhere to privacy and information-sharing requirements
  • Actively contribute to service design, evaluation, and continuous improvement initiatives

About You

You are deeply committed to social justice, trauma-informed care, and client-centred practice. Whether you bring personal insight or professional experience, you understand the real impacts of domestic and financial abuse—and you’re ready to help people reclaim their power and voice through financial independence.

You will have:

  • A tertiary qualification in Social Work, Community Development, Psychology, Financial Counselling, or related field
  • Experience delivering financial capability, counselling, or coaching services
  • Strong understanding of family violence, particularly the dynamics and impacts of financial abuse
  • Capacity to facilitate individual sessions and small group programs confidently
  • Cultural competency and experience supporting people from diverse and intersectional backgrounds
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams
  • A current Driver’s Licence and willingness to travel for community-based outreach

Why Join Good Shepherd?

  • Be part of a ground-breaking national initiative addressing financial recovery after abuse
  • Flexible hybrid working model with community-based outreach
  • Access generous salary packaging and leave benefits
  • Join a collaborative, inclusive, and impact-driven culture
  • Ongoing training, supervision, and development aligned with trauma-informed best practice
  • Make a meaningful difference in the lives of women, girls, and families across Australia
