Financial Independence Hub Practitioner

Good Shepherd Australia New Zealand

At Good Shepherd Australia New Zealand, we believe in a world where all women, girls and families are safe, strong and connected. We’ve been supporting communities for over 160 years and we continue to stand beside those facing adversity – walking with them towards greater wellbeing, independence and opportunity.

We are now inviting compassionate, skilled, and values-driven professionals to join our Financial Independence Hub (FIH) team as a FIH Practitioner.

About the Role

The FIH supports people who have experienced financial abuse and are now seeking support to regain financial control and confidence. As a FIH Practitioner, you will walk alongside participants, providing individualised support, advocacy, and practical assistance to empower them toward financial wellbeing and long-term recovery.

Whether through one-on-one case work or group-based financial wellbeing programs, you will play a critical role in helping people understand their money habits, enhance budgeting skills, and explore income, education, and financial options.

This is an opportunity to be part of a trauma-informed, client-centred program that makes a genuine difference in people’s lives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Respond to enquiries from participants and referral partners with empathy and professionalism
  • Conduct needs assessments, develop safety plans, and create collaborative case plans
  • Empower clients to identify their goals and build the skills to manage their finances
  • Facilitate Financial Wellbeing Groups for victim-survivors of financial abuse
  • Coordinate services and referrals to provide holistic, wrap-around support
  • Deliver services flexibly – via phone, video, or in-person – depending on client needs
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records in line with compliance standards
  • Actively contribute to the promotion and development of the FIH program
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure positive outcomes for clients

About You

You are a skilled social service practitioner with a strong understanding of family and financial abuse, and you’re passionate about helping people rebuild their lives. You bring a trauma-informed and culturally sensitive lens to your work and are comfortable facilitating both individual and group support.

You will have:

  • A tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Community Development, Financial Counselling or a related field
  • Experience working with people who have experienced family violence or financial abuse
  • Ability to manage competing priorities with initiative and sound judgment
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative spirit
  • Experience delivering strengths-based, participant-led services
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • A current Driver’s Licence, Police Check and Working with Children Check (Employee)
