The Garvan Research Foundation was founded in 1981 and is the fundraising and marketing arm of the Institute, raising awareness and vital funds from individuals, trusts and foundations and corporate and community groups.
The Foundation’s income has grown from a fundraising base of $110,000 in its first year to more than $42 million in 2022 – approximately half of the Institute’s total income. The remarkable success of the Foundation’s activities is having a catalytic impact on our researchers’ ability to make scientific contributions that will ultimately lead to earlier diagnosis, better treatments and ultimately prevention or cure of a range of diseases.
The Bequest Coordinator reports to the Bequest Manager and contributes to the growth of the bequest and mid-value programs within the Garvan Research Foundation. This role has a very strong donor relationship management and customer service focus, providing high-level supporter care and stewardship across the mid-value and bequest programs. You will be engaged in detailed and ongoing personalised engagement over the phone and face to face, alongside conversion, and retention activities across new and existing donor groups.
The Foundation’s fundraising activities include donor appeals, acquisition campaigns, engagement through personalised tours, events, public seminars, and supporter care communications. Those who are identified as mid-value supporters, bequest prospects or confirmed bequestors (called Partners for the Future) are supported on their donor-centric journey by the Bequest Team. The objective is to build relationships with our supporters to maintain and grow the contribution of these supporters, both through income and commitment to Garvan.
Supporter Care and Stewardship:
Database and Administration:
Exceptional best practice maintenance of detailed and accurate supporter records and profiles including, data entry, recording conversation and meeting notes, scanning donor and estate and relevant documents.
Assist with research to identify new prospects.
Communications, Planning and Reporting:
Conduct communications either by mail, email, or phone to qualify supporters in their donor journey.
Coordinate the sending of bequest enquiry, prospect, and conversion packs in a timely manner.
Prepare and draft timely and personalised communications including welcome letters, with comp’s slips, ad-hoc letters, and certificates.
Event Engagement Activities:
Assist in the development and on-the-day delivery of the bequest programs morning teas, personalised tours, and other engagement activities to promote Garvan and/or bequest program.
Assist in the development of objectives, timelines, event program, budgets and run sheets.
Coordinate event RSVPs and guest lists.
