The Position

We are seeking a part-time (0.6 to 0.8 FTE) experienced Communications and Marketing Coordinator to support the activities of Geelong Sustainability (GS) and deliver the organisation's Communications Strategy. The role will focus on the delivery of the following key outcomes:

  • Empower the community with information about practical actions they can take to become more sustainable and act on climate change
  • Grow GS’s social media following with increased community engagement leading to higher participation in GS events and programs
  • Effective storytelling that demonstrates the positive impact and outcomes of GS initiatives
  • Drive donation pathways with consistent nurturing communications with potential donors
  • Demonstrate the value of GS services and increase community and business uptake
  • Use GS communication channels for effective advocacy on Climate Change and other sustainability issues

Key Accountabilities

  • Planning and delivery of positive, clear and targeted communications and marketing, to drive engagement across the target audiences of GS
  • Supporting the CEO to deliver the communications strategy with overall integration to the broader GS 2025 strategy
  • Writing and editing content for various purposes eg. monthly newsletter, media releases, website, project information, and event publicity etc.
  • Effectively managing all social media channels
  • Creating and delivering effective engagement campaigns for target audiences across multiple channels including digital and print media, email and print media
  • Communicating effectively and professionally with all stakeholders across digital, phone and in-person communications

Other Accountabilities

  • Meet with and report on a regular basis to the CEO
  • Work with relevant stakeholders to ensure content is aligned and approved
  • Actively contribute ideas and work collaboratively
  • Support Geelong Sustainability’s vision and strategy in all communications
  • Any other duties as deemed appropriate by the CEO

Key Selection Criteria

  • Tertiary qualifications in communications, marketing, journalism or relevant discipline, and/or equivalent relevant work experience
  • Demonstrated experience in the planning and implementation of communications and engagement strategies for a variety of stakeholders across the public and private sectors, utilising a range of communication channels and platforms
  • Demonstrated experience working independently at the direction of management, delivering work to the required standard and timeframes and showing initiative and a proactive approach to task prioritisation, execution and problem solving
  • Demonstrated experience in communicating effectively with a variety of audiences, including written and spoken messaging (eg. emails, social media platforms, video)
  • Experience in the development of marketing collateral including brochures, success stories, slide packs etc.
  • Ability to manage allocated budget for marketing activities to maximise effective use of funds
  • Experience in the preparation of reports for stakeholders and management

Essential skills and competencies

  • Excellent communication skills (written, digital and verbal) for engaging with a variety of audiences
  • Ability to deal with pressure and work to demanding deadlines, including juggling multiple projects and competing priorities effectively
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to develop relationships, working collaboratively and inclusively with a range of stakeholders at varying levels including individuals, teams and public and private sector organisations
  • High level of digital literacy including Google Workspace, MS Office, Social Media, Data Management and Content Management systems, and bulk email distribution applications like MailerLite
  • Graphic design experience will be considered favourably (eg. proficiency using Abobe Photoshop, InDesign etc.)
  • Ability to effectively plan, monitor and execute projects using a systemised approach and relevant tracking tools (e.g. Excel, Microsoft Project etc.)
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the principles of sustainability
  • Willingness to work and attend meetings outside of normal office hours
  • A current Victorian driver’s licence and the use of a car
  • Eligibility to work in Australia

Selection Process

It is anticipated that the following schedule will be followed in regard to the recruitment process:

  • Position advertised 29 June 2023
  • Applications close 23 July 2023
  • Advise of interviews 27 July 2023
  • Undertake interviews week commencing 31 July 2023
  • Appointment of successful applicant 7 August or soon thereafter

Employment Terms

  • Appointment is subject to a satisfactory Reference and Police Checks.
  • The position is subject to a satisfactory performance review after six months and subject to continued funding of the organisation.
  • The successful candidate will be required to regularly work from home and also attend a co-working space within the Geelong region.
