Great Barrier Reef Foundation

ABOUT THE GREAT BARRIER REEF FOUNDATION

GBRF is an independent Australian charity focused on solutions to the threats facing the Great Barrier Reef and innovations that will benefit the coral reefs globally as they tackle the same threats and challenges facing the world's largest coral reef.

As the lead science-based charity for the Great Barrier Reef, GBRF brings together the brightest minds, innovative technologies, and science to solve the most complex and challenging problems facing the survival of the Great Barrier Reef, and coral reefs globally. GBRF challenges everyone to stand up, unite, and take an active part in reef conservation.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Great Barrier Reef Foundation is seeking an exceptional candidate to co-lead the Coral Biodiversity Credit project, which will be delivered by the Foundation and the Australian Institute of Marine Science, in close collaboration with the Reef Restoration and Adaptation Program (RRAP - www.gbrrestoration.org).

The project launched in November 2023, and will create a pioneering innovative financing method for coral reef conservation. The project focuses on designing a scientific methodology to link coral reef attributes to biodiversity outcomes, establishing a pathway for this methodology to be independently certified, and based on this methodology, developing a regulatory roadmap for the world-first implementation of Coral Biodiversity Credits.

AIMS will be responsible for the science component of the Project and will work closely with the successful candidate, who will undertake a diverse set of activities, from research and analysis of a range of conservation financing products, through to method certification and management of project progress. The role, which will report to the Executive Director of RRAP, is suited to someone with a background in conservation finance, who thrives when working collaboratively across sectors and stakeholders, and comfortable with complex project delivery and management.
