ABOUT THE ROLE

This role co-leads the Traditional Owner Partnerships team with the Co-Director Traditional Owner Partnerships and works closely with the Executive Director of Projects and Partnerships to successfully implement Traditional Owner projects across all components of the Reef Trust Partnership Agreement. Projects within this component are developed, implemented, monitored, and evaluated within an emerging co-design and co-delivery approach.

This position involves leadership responsibilities, partner and relationship management, program design and oversight, with a significant focus on operational execution, encompassing tasks such as contracting, budgeting, and reporting. This role is complementary to the Director of Traditional Owner Strategic Initiatives role which has carriage of the Strategic Communications, Innovative Financing, model of care and bridging across to the Traditional Owner Reef 2050 Implementation activities within the Reef Trust Partnership Program.

skills and experience

  1. A degree in a discipline such as science, social science, policy, engineering or conservation management; a postgraduate qualification is desirable but not essential
  2. At least 10 years’ experience applying domain expertise to practical impact-driven implementation (e.g. through government, NGO, foundation or corporate sector)
  3. A minimum of 10 years experience working on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander programs.
  4. Demonstrated experience in the establishment and effective execution of multi-stakeholder impact-driven Traditional Owner and conservation programs
  5. Experience designing, measuring, evaluating and reporting on the impact of projects and programs and drawing on the lessons learned
  6. Experience leading high performing teams and building and maintaining effective partnerships
  7. Demonstrated high-level of cultural competency and trusted relationships with Reef Traditional Owners
  8. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and complex environment with rapidly changing responsibilities
  9. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with experts and non-experts both orally and in writing and translate outcomes into policy and practice.
  10. Experience in economic development and/ or business enterprise development is highly desirable

JOB LOCATION

Brisbane, Cairns or Townsville offices, or remotely from home by negotiation.

WORK TYPE

Full time fixed term until September 2026.
