The Geelong Animal Welfare Society (GAWS) is a not for profit organisation providing veterinary services to the Geelong region. The organisation has a long and proud history having serviced the local community since 1956. The role of veterinarian is an integral position at GAWS, providing support to the Head Vet, and contributing to the organisation’s ability to maintain its sustainability as an animal welfare establishment.
The GAWS Community Veterinary Clinic, is a dynamic environment involved in the provision of veterinary services to both in-house shelter animals and private clients with a focus on companion animals. Building relationships with the local community and rapport with clients, both internal and external, is integral to the role.
The position can be part-time or full-time and is ongoing. A flexible work arrangement on hours of work is available and will be negotiated with the successful candidate.

- Provision of high quality, timely veterinary services to both internal and external clients .
- Commitment to ongoing learning to ensure clinical skills remain up-to-date and in line with industry standards and expectations
- Commitment towards achieving positive animal welfare outcomes
- Ability to problem solve to achieve the best outcome for clients within the organisations capabilities.
- Contribute to the development of clinic policies and procedures, maintain high standards of administration and strong planning and organisational skills to effectively manage workload and meet deadlines.
Experience & Skills
To be considered for this position you must be able to demonstrate:
- An appropriate degree qualification, clinical experience and registration with an appropriate Veterinary Practitioners Registration Board.
- A team focus with excellent communication and relationship building skills.
- Strong customer service focus with ability to formulate suitable outcomes.
- Depending on your level of experience the ability to work effectively and independently with access to supervision where required.
- Intermediate level of competency with Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel) and preparedness to learn systems including shelter mate and customer logic.
Though not essential, the following would be beneficial:
- Experience in a not-for-profit organisation, open admission animal shelter or animal welfare organisation.
The successful applicant for this position will be required to undergo a pre-employment Police Check, will need to possess a valid driver’s license and provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia.
