Fitzroy Neighbourhood House (FNH) (Fitzroy Learning Network) is a Learn Local RTO in Fitzroy. We are looking for a casual EAL teacher to teach our 22637VIC Course in EAL Class on a Monday. We are looking for a someone with a passion for teaching students with little to no literacy in both English and their first language.

Job Description

This is a core teaching position in a low level class for English learners. Students in this class have limited literacy in both English and their first language.

This position requires a patient, caring educator, with a passion for assisting those at the very beginning of their English language learning journey.

You will be delivering accredited EAL programs to culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) adult learners, ensuring high-quality teaching, compliance with regulatory frameworks, and a supportive, inclusive learning environment.

  • Deliver engaging, learner-centred teaching aligned with FLN values
  • Apply a strengths-based approach that supports diverse learner needs and wellbeing
  • Ensure compliance with all funding, regulatory, and organisational requirements

Key Selection Criteria

Qualifications:

Applicants must hold the following qualifications in order to be considered:

  • A four year Bachelor of Education, with TESOL as a method OR

or

  • An undergraduate bachelor degree plus a p
    • Graduate Certificate in Education (TESOL)
    • Graduate Certificate in TESOL
    • Graduate Diploma in TESOL
    • Graduate Diploma of Education with a TESOL method
    • Master of TESOL/Master of Applied Linguistics/Master of Arts (TESOL)
    • Master of Teaching with a TESOL method

These qualifications must also include at least a 22 day teaching practicum.

and

  • A Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40116) – or TAE40110, in conjunction with TAEASS502 and TAELLN411.

Other Criteria:

  • A passion for low literacy education
  • Demonstrated ability to
    • plan for and deliver effective teaching through the use of a range of appropriate EAL activities, resources, and materials
    • identify challenges in a classroom environment and effectively resolve these
    • apply knowledge of the principles of adult learning to effectively engage FLN’s CALD adult learners to maximise education outcomes.
  • Proven ability to work empathetically with people from diverse cultural and/or socio-economic backgrounds, and an understanding of issues facing refugees, asylum seekers and new migrants.
  • Highly developed written and oral communication skills.
  • High digital literacy proficiency, including online teaching media, Microsoft Office programs, online education databases, and ability to access digital resources.
  • Satisfactory result from a police check (to be conducted by FNH) and Working with Children Check.

Desirable:

  • Experience delivering EAL Frameworks
  • Experience working with AMEP and Skills First compliance requirements

About us

Fitzroy Learning Network Inc. (FLN) is a not-for-profit organisation, affiliated Community Neighbourhood House Learning Centre and Registered Training Organisation (RTO).

Since the mid-1980s FLN has provided a variety of highly regarded and valued programs and services to the community with a particular focus on newly arrived migrants, refugees, asylum seekers and young people.

These programs and services range from English language programs to teaching sewing skills, computer skills and business leadership.

Salary

The position is based on the employment conditions set out in the Educational Services (post-Secondary Education) Award 2010.

The position is part-time and is paid in accordance with qualifications and experience, as negotiated, according to the Teachers and Tutors/Instructors salary provisions in the award.
