About the Centre:

Flemington Childcare Co-operative (Co-op) is a community focused, small not-for-profit early learning centre that was founded by local families over 40 years ago. Set in a converted cottage, Co-op’s programs include long day care and a 3 and 4 year old integrated Kinder program. Overall, we offer 37 places.

We believe that children deserve the opportunity to learn, feel safe and connect with nature and the community. We foster a sense of belonging, understanding and togetherness in the community. We provide support networks to help families feel connected to the neighbourhood and wider community.

Work days of the Role: Mondays to Fridays, Onsite (flexible working arrangements negotiable)

Hours of Work of the Role: 38 hours per week (part-time negotiable)

Description:

Flemington Childcare Co-operative is seeking a dedicated and experienced Early Childhood Director to join our small and nurturing early learning centre in Flemington. As a not-for-profit co-operative, we are committed to providing high-quality care and education for children while promoting a strong sense of community and collaboration.

We are looking for someone to lead the overall management and operations of the Centre, as well as provide assistance in all aspects of running the centre, ensuring the delivery of exceptional care and education.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the overall management and operations of the early learning centre, ensuring the delivery of exceptional care and education.
  • In consultation with the Board of Management, develop and implement a strategic vision for the centre that aligns with our co-operative philosophy and values.
  • Create a nurturing and inclusive environment that supports children's holistic development.
  • Build strong relationships with families, promoting open communication, trust, and active involvement in the centre's activities.
  • Recruit, supervise, and mentor a team of dedicated educators, fostering a positive and collaborative work culture.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, legislation, and licensing requirements.
  • Manage the centre's budget and resources effectively, seeking opportunities for optimisation and growth.
  • Collaborate with the Co-operative Board, staff, and families to maintain effective communication and community partnerships.

Key Selection Criteria:

Qualifications and Training

  • A degree in early childhood education is preferred, however a highly experienced and skilled applicant with a Diploma in Children’s Services (or equivalent) will be considered.
  • Current Working with Children Check and National Police Criminal History Check.
  • Current First Aid and Asthma/Anaphylaxis Certificates.

Essential skills and knowledge

  • Substantial experience working in the early childhood sector with an understanding of the business aspects of Centre performance and compliance with applicable regulations and legislation.
  • General business experience including administration, HR, finance, organisation and time management skills will be well regarded.
  • Demonstrated commitment to Early Childhood Education profession including sound knowledge of the Early Years Learning Framework, National Quality Framework and its practical application.
  • Proven ability to coach and mentor other staff to improve their professional knowledge and skills as teachers and educators
  • The ability to plan, work and manage time effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Can fill the position Nominated Supervisor or person in a leadership position or day-to-day charge if required by the Approved Provider in accordance with the Education and Care Services National Regulations.

Interpersonal skills

  • Works in a cooperative and professional manner with other staff, families, the Board of Management and all other stakeholders.
  • Strong team leadership and relationship building skills, coupled with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
