First Nations Legal and Research Services (FNLRS) is a not-for-profit organisation assisting Victorian Traditional Owners to obtain recognition of their rights and interests under the Commonwealth Native Title Act and the Victorian Traditional Owner Settlement Act. The organisation also assists Traditional Owners to manage their rights and interests once they have been recognised.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

In this role you will report to the Corporate Services Manager and be part of a close-knit team with two other Community Liaison Officers.

Some of your main tasks will include:

  • Engaging with and building relationships with Traditional Owner communities and other stakeholders.
  • Advising staff on cultural considerations and culturally appropriate communications with Traditional Owners.
  • Assisting staff with introductions to Traditional Owners.
  • Maintaining FNLRS’ Traditional Owner contact database.
  • Organising and attending Traditional Owner group meetings and providing logistical support.
  • Ensuring that the paperwork associated with Traditional Owner meetings, such as invoices and TA payments, are followed up and completed in a timely manner.

From time to time, you will be required to travel to regional Victoria to provide support at meetings, usually held on a weekend. Time worked on a weekend can be accrued as TOIL (time off in lieu). 

This role can be worked part-time, 4 days a week, or full-time, let us know what works for you.

ABOUT YOU

As our newest Community Liaison Officer, you have a great understanding of Victorian Traditional Owner culture, and you pride yourself on your ability to build effective relationships with a diverse range of people.

You can draft and produce written documents in Microsoft applications with ease and you enjoy completing a range of administrative tasks through-out your day. You are organised, with great attention to detail, and you are comfortable working to deadlines.
