THE OPPORTUNITY

Reporting to the Associate Director - Investments within FAC’s Investments Team, the Investment Analyst will work on a range of investment deals at any point in time across the life cycle of proposal development, from due diligence to tailoring of finance options and the development of investment proposals.   The Investment Analyst will work collaboratively with the FAC’s Business Advisory team, contributing to building the capacity and pipeline of the Indigenous business sector in Australia.

Candidates should be interested and motivated to work in a not-for-profit for-purpose organisation that strives towards delivering excellent outcomes for Indigenous businesses across Australia. An ideal candidate would be industry agnostic, able to work with business across varying stages of lifecycles (start-up, growth, mature), and utilise a diverse set of FAC financial products to best support growth trajectories.

The role includes credit analysis, ownership and delivery of investment proposals from a debt lens, risk assessment and mitigation, and monitoring and tracking of post-funding investments conducted from a relationship-based approach. On a full-time basis, the preferred location of the role is Melbourne. However, applicants from Brisbane, Sydney or Newcastle (or within one hour of these locations) will also be considered. There are some expectations on interstate travel when required. Flexible working arrangements are respected.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct due diligence and screening on potential Indigenous business investments.
  • Prepare in-depth financial analysis on a range of potential investment products (including loan finance, patient capital, quasi-equity instruments or available industry grants).
  • Assist in the preparation of investment proposals, including collating information and communicating qualitative and financial analysis clearly in written proposals and verbal presentations to the FAC Impact Capital Investment Committee.
  • Prepare robust qualitative and quantitative financial analysis and modelling to project future earning and profit potential of investment opportunities and support informed decision-making.
  • Articulate key investment risks and mitigation strategies aligning to the Investment Risk Framework.
  • Assist with social return performance analysis of investments.
  • Work collaboratively with other FAC business functions including Business Advisory, Corporate, Fund Management, Senior Management and Executive Team to support Indigenous business outcomes.

ABOUT YOU

This role requires a combination of credit skills and financial modelling experience gained in banking, funds management or other relevant industries. The role will suit a candidate who is well acquainted with investment appraisal techniques, business valuation methods, and has a strong understanding of investment product placement, measurement, management and reporting. The ideal candidate will relish working directly with their customer, have exceptional stakeholder management skills and be able to collaborate effectively across different teams.

What you’ll need to succeed:

  • A minimum of two years’ work experience gained within impact investing, banking, funds management or generalist investment industries is highly favourable. A minimum of two years’ experience gained within other relevant industries, including professional services, corporate finance or advisory will also be considered.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous economic development, impact capital markets and/or social enterprise context will be highly regarded.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Indigenous societies, cultures and issues affecting Indigenous Australians in business.
  • An undergraduate and/or post grad qualification in business, commerce, economics or accounting along with a background in financial modelling.
