We continue to carry on the legacy of Professor Fred Hollows, who believed every person had the right to quality eye care, no matter where they live. The Foundation has grown to work in more than 25 countries throughout Africa, South Asia, Southeast Asia, the Middle East and the Pacific, as well as Australia.

The Foundation has restored sight to more than 3 million people worldwide. We have an ambitious five-year strategic plan that aims to take us even closer to realising our vision of a world in which no person is needlessly blind or vision impaired and Indigenous Australians exercise their right to sight and good health.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Head of Institutional Funding will lead and oversee The Fred Hollows Foundation’s institutional funding strategy, working closely with Markets teams, Government relations and Advocacy, and Programs teams. They will support the growth, diversification, and effective management of funding from bilateral and multilateral donors, foundations, and government agencies. A key focus of the role is to foster strategic partnerships with donors, as well as strategy and implementing partners so we collectively maximise the impact and sustainability of The Foundation’s work.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the development and implementation of a robust institutional funding strategy aligned with the Foundation’s global vision and strategic priorities
  • Monitor and respond to evolving donor landscapes, funding trends, and policy shifts.
  • Working with FHF Markets, Gov relations and Advocacy and Programs teams, cultivate and strengthen relationships with a diverse range of donors, including DFAT, WHO, UN agencies, and other large institutional donors.
  • Identify and pursue new funding opportunities working with global and country teams
  • Oversee high-quality grant design, development and processes
  • Work closely with program, technical, and finance teams to ensure alignment between program design and donor expectations.
  • Proactively develop and manage strategic partnerships with implementing partners, including NGOs, government bodies, and technical agencies, to enhance technical design and funding competitiveness.
  • Provide strategic leadership to the Institutional Funding team, fostering a high-performing and collaborative culture.
  • Ensure compliance. management, reporting, and risk mitigation across the institutional funding portfolio throughout the lifecycle of the grant.
  • Ensure strong donor engagement and stewardship

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED

  • Extensive knowledge of eye health and the eye health sector, including knowledge of funding, institutional and sector agencies.
  • Extensive experience in working with government and other funders to secure new funding for eye health
  • Experience in working with program development, country office staff, marketing teams, and relationship managers on sales and government relations strategies.
  • Experience in shaping and implementing effective grant development programs to generate new revenue
  • Extensive knowledge of market intelligence and sector trends across significant institutional funding sources, both public and private.
  • Knowledge of the global challenges of health service provision and broader development practices
  • Experience representing and advocate at events, conferences, meetings and other public forums
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally would be ideal but not required.
