ABOUT THE FRED HOLLOWS FOUNDATION

The Foundation is an international development organisation working to prevent blindness and restore sight. We continue to carry on the legacy of Professor Fred Hollows, who believed every person had the right to quality eye care, no matter where they live. The Foundation has grown to work in more than 25 countries throughout Africa, South Asia, Southeast Asia, the Middle East and the Pacific, as well as Australia.

The Foundation has restored sight to more than 3 million people worldwide. We have an ambitious five-year strategic plan that aims to take us even closer to realising our vision of a world in which no person is needlessly blind or vision impaired and Indigenous Australians exercise their right to sight and good health.

THE OPPORTUNITY

It is anticipated that 55-70% of this role will be Data Science focused. The balance will be Analytics focused and primarily involve Reporting, Business Intelligence and Decision Support. You will report to the Head of Data Analytics and Data Science who is an experienced Data Scientist within the Fundraising area of FHF.

FHF is amongst the premier For Purpose organisations in Australia. The size and quality of the supporter database is exceptional. The Data IT infrastructure and toolset is leading edge. As you join an established, small and talented Data team you will be uniquely positioned and expected to contribute strongly to delivering leading edge data solutions that support and extend FHF’s ambitious fundraising goals.

Whilst demonstrable workplace success in Data Science and Analytics is valued, minimal levels of workplace experience will not necessarily be a barrier for applicants with appropriate tertiary qualifications to this role. What is essential is demonstrable capability to proactively tackle problems with a ‘can-do’ attitude, to learn quickly, to look beyond presented problems to underlying needs and root causes, to successfully convey ownership of solutions to key fundraising staff, to focus on collective outcomes, to manage simultaneous projects, and to usefully apply technical skills to real world fundraising challenges.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Gather, enrich and distil stakeholder requirements in the context of FHF operations, strategies and objectives.
  • Proactively contribute to optimising the FHF data ecosystem - data pipelines, data stores etc.
  • Build prototype and production grade Data Science and Analytics deliverables that meet business requirements and keep FHF at the frontier of Data Science and Analytics best practice.
  • Concisely and pragmatically document generated work so consequent organisational gains outlive the tenure of the data professionals who deliver them.
  • Conduct work so that buy-in from stakeholders to Data Science and analytics deliverables delivers concrete fundraising ROI uplift, and so that the data literacy and proficiency in FHF generally is advanced.
  • Optimising outcome quality and job scope with speed of delivery and/or delivery timelines.
  • Other tasks as requested by your manager or mentor/s.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications with strong grades in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Data Science, Applied Statistics, or Mathematics (essential).
  • Experience using tools such as Python, R, powerBi and Excel to deliver high quality Data Science and Analytics deliverables (essential). Delivery of same in organisational settings (preferred).
  • Experience in digital and conventional mass marketing or even better, mass fundraising (preferred).
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure Cloud environments (preferred).
  • Experienced with data from common upstream or surrounding systems and environments (CRM, CMS, CDP, Google Analytics, Microsoft Azure Cloud) and in leveraging legitimate public domain data e.g. ABS data.
