The Federation of Ethnic Communities’ Councils of Australia (FECCA) is the national peak body representing people from multicultural communities and their organisations across Australia. Through the membership of state, territory, and regional councils, we represent over 1,500 community organisations and their members. For over 40 years, FECCA has proudly worked alongside culturally and linguistically diverse communities, the broader Australian society and the Commonwealth government to build an inclusive multicultural Australia.

Position Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and undertake policy analysis and policy submissions to address current and emerging issues affecting health and ageing of people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds
  • Lead the implementation of multicultural health and aged care outreach and engagement programs including day-to-day problem-solving, monitoring and evaluation, and stakeholder management
  • Prepare high quality written reports, briefs, correspondence, and other documents to inform decision making or respond to agency or government requests
  • Provide sound information and advice on current and emerging policy issues to the Director of Policy on Health & Ageing and as needed, the FECCA Management Team to support effective decision making
  • Coordinate competitive and strategic grant applications and grant management
  • Engage FECCA member organisations, partners, and stakeholders to identify policy and practice recommendations on various health, ageing, and aged care issues
  • Support communication and outreach activities
  • Coordinate a team of Policy & Project Officers
  • Support the Director of Policy on Health & Ageing in team-building and fostering a supportive, collegial, and learning culture

As a Senior Policy & Program Officer, you will have proven capability in leading a team of passionate and highly capable colleagues, analysing policies, managing and evaluating programs, collaborating with all stakeholders, communicating effectively, and developing recommendations to solve policy and service problems.

Reporting Relationship

Senior Policy and Project Officer reports to the Director of Policy (Health & Ageing) and works collaboratively with the larger FECCA team and key community partners and stakeholders.

Reporting to this position: 1 or 2 Policy & Project Officers

People from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are especially encouraged to apply.

Essential Criteria:

  • Relevant qualification or professional experience in any of the following areas: health, ageing, community development, social policy
  • Substantial experience in analysing relevant policies and/or analyse quantitative and qualitative data to develop high-quality reports and advocacy materials
  • Substantial experience in program development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation in a multi-disciplinary or multi-stakeholder contexts
  • Demonstrated understanding of government systems, not-for-profit organisations, and policy development process
  • Excellent communication and people skills critical in developing collaborative relationships with a range of stakeholders such as people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, community-based organisations, government agencies, and researchers
  • Demonstrated ability to lead / coordinate a team in a positive and supportive manner
  • Ability to adapt in a dynamic work environment, takes initiative, and requires minimal supervision

Desired Criteria:

  • Demonstrated understanding or lived experience of issues impacting people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds
  • Previous experience in multicultural advocacy/lobbying, or multicultural community engagement and outreach
  • Good understanding of the machinery of government and how to influence
