The Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia (Division 2) (Court) is the biggest and busiest court in the federal judicial system, having broad jurisdiction across areas including family law, migration, bankruptcy, fair work, administrative law, intellectual property and consumer law. Sitting in all capital cities, the Court comprises 88 judges, hundreds of legal, social science and related support staff, and has the largest proportion of migration filings in the federal jurisdiction.
The Court recently secured funding for the creation of Cultural Liaison Officer roles to improve access to justice for culturally and linguistically diverse litigants in migration proceedings, where 79% of applicants are unrepresented.
We are calling on people with experience dealing with people from diverse backgrounds, those engaged in migration support services areas and/or law graduates with an interest in migration law, to apply for the position of Cultural Liaison Officer.
These roles will work cohesively alongside specialist Judicial Registrars, national operations and registry staff to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the Court’s migration caseload, while providing appropriate and tailored support services to migrant and refugee litigants.
In addition to rewarding work, the successful applicant will receive the opportunity to work as part of a collaborative national team and are eligible to receive an attractive remuneration package in the range of $97,199 – $105,947, including 15.4% superannuation.
