Fawkner Neighbourhood House Incorporated (FNH) is a vibrant community hub serving the diverse residents of Fawkner and surrounding areas. We offer a wide range of programs, services, childcare, and activities designed to enhance well-being and foster inclusivity.

FNH is a not-for-profit organisation supported by a dedicated team of core and support staff, alongside valued volunteers. We operate under a shared governance model with Brunswick Neighbourhood House, with a single Board of Management providing strategic direction and making key policy decisions for both organisations. This role reports directly to the Board of Management.

Fawkner Neighbourhood House operates out of two sites offering a variety of learning and social support programs, and services to the diverse community of Fawkner and surrounding areas.

About the role

The Manager is responsible to the Board of Management for the operation, management and development of FNH, and for ensuring that FNH is operated in accordance with the Board’s policy decisions, the strategic plan and the service agreements with funding bodies.

As Manager you will be expected to:

  • lead the daily operations of FNH,
  • effectively manage the team of staff, volunteers, participants, and community partners to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of programs.
  • Report to the FNH Board of Management (BoM),
  • drive the organisation’s mission forward and ensuring seamless operations across all facets of FNH,
  • implement the strategic plan and
  • oversee all operational aspects, including finance, staff management, and service agreements (please see position description for more detail).

Key Selection Criteria

We are looking for someone who has a deep understanding and empathy with our purpose, goals and values and meets the following criteria:

Essential:

  • Demonstrated significant understanding of and experience in the Community development sector (preferably in Neighbourhood Houses and/or Adult and Community Organisations) and a Commitment to social justice and equality.
  • Demonstrated experience working with diverse teams of staff and volunteers, fostering positive and collaborative workplace cultures. Skilled in time management, prioritising multiple tasks, using IT effectively, and managing budgets and financial processes confidently.
  • Experience in developing and implementing operational plans and managing budgets, including allocation of resources to effectively and efficiently achieve funding, contractual obligations and organisational compliance
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to represent and advocate for the organisation professionally and strategically with community, funders, and other stakeholders.

Desirable:

  • Strong connection to or local knowledge of the Fawkner locality.
  • A knowledge of Adult Community Further Education (ACFE)
  • Some capacity for after hours and weekend work. (Some occasional out-of-hours work will be necessary from time to time. All such, work undertaken as in accordance with the NHACE Agreement).
  • A relevant tertiary qualification in a human service, education, community development or related field.
  • A current First Aid certificate (or the ability to obtain one).

Relevant Checks

  • All appointments are subject to National Police Record Check and Working with Children Check.
  • A probationary period of six-months will apply to the position, which may be extended by the Board of management if necessary
