NSW Trustee & Guardian protects, promotes and supports the rights, dignity, choices and wishes of the people of NSW. The agency supports the Chief Executive Officer and the Public Guardian to provide customer-centred services to the people of NSW, including some of the state’s most vulnerable. We do this by providing a range of multidisciplinary services including Will-making, estate planning, executorship, trustee, financial management and guardianship services.

We write more than 13,000 estate planning documents each year, support over 47,000 customers annually and manage over six billion dollars in customer assets. A NSW government agency within the Stronger Communities Cluster, our services help support and protect people at critical moments in their lives.

About the role

The role of Senior Genealogy Researcher is to provide genealogical research services to determine estate entitlement in intestate and testate estates in accordance with the laws of New South Wales with research extending beyond NSW, within Australia and overseas. The role delivers quality services that align with NSW Trustee & Guardian’s Customer Excellence Principles and meet the needs of customers and the agency. 

About you

You are someone who has a passion and knowledge of genealogy and experience in genealogy research. You will be:

  • A self-starter who can work independently and prioritise time to achieve targets
  • A team player who works collaboratively and supportively to help the team achieve targets
  • Able to use multiple data sources to extract information that results in obtaining accurate information in a timely fashion to deliver excellent service to customers.

Essential Requirements 

  • Experience in estate administration and knowledge of succession law, especially intestacy.
  • Knowledge, understanding and experience or ability to gain knowledge and understanding in using contemporary genealogical search tools to evaluate evidence, identify and locate those entitled under the law in an intestate estate or an ability to learn the use of such tools.
  • Understanding of NSW government and NSW Trustee & Guardian’s key services and customer base.
