Applications are invited for a part-time community organiser position in the Office of Elizabeth Watson-Brown MP. This role is based in Taringa, QLD and is offered as a 6 month contract, with the possibility of extension. The role is offered at 3 days per week.

The Community Organiser will support Ryan Electorate Office and MP to connect with constituents in Ryan by organising and running events, organising volunteers, and engaging with community members.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Working with the Local Issues Organiser to run events in the Ryan community including community BBQs, or other community events that increase Elizabeth’s accessibility to the electorate.
  • Maintaining positive relationships with volunteers and community members.
  • Supervising volunteers in the Electorate Office and at events in the community.
  • Assisting with other projects including helping with or running free BBQs and stalls at community events.
  • Managing the recruitment and execution of volunteer projects including letterboxing, running market stalls, community BBQs and other tasks as assigned.
  • Assisting to prepare written materials relevant to the events and volunteer projects, including drafting design briefs, social media posts and emails.
  • Contributing to staffing the electorate office reception area, including triaging phone inquiries, emails, and walk-ins to the relevant team member, as required.
  • Handling sensitive and confidential information ethically and respectfully.

Applicants should possess the following skills and experience:

  • Highly developed project management and organisation skills, including the ability to juggle numerous tasks and prioritise based on urgency.
  • Ability to work as part of a small team, under time constraints and tight deadlines, with a high level of independence.
  • Highly developed written, verbal, organisational and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Alignment with progressive Greens values and a commitment to making positive change, and ideally experience talking about Greens policies and priorities.
  • Experience working with and managing volunteers, including an ability to develop rapport and connection with new people quickly.
  • Experience organising and running events.

Other desirable qualities:

  • Drivers licence and access to a car.
  • Experience using NationBuilder, or other data management systems.
  • Experience using Google and Outlook systems.

Employment Conditions

This position will be offered under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984, and employment conditions are outlined in the Commonwealth Members of Parliament Staff Enterprise Agreement 2020-2023, which include:

  • A full-time equivalent salary of $73,098.
  • Generous employer-sponsored superannuation of 15%.
  • Relocation assistance, studies assistance and paid study leave may also be available (subject to eligibility requirements).
  • Training and professional development as facilitated by the employment framework.
  • This is a 6 month contract with the possibility of extension beyond then, subject to availability.
  • This position will require some flexible work arrangements including regular weekday evening and occasional weekend work. Any hours worked will be remunerated and time off in lieu will be offered for any additional hours worked.

A probationary period of three months will apply and may be subject to extension by a maximum of two months. All employees are expected to sign a confidentiality and code of conduct agreement before the commencement of their employment.
