Reconciliation Victoria is the statewide body promoting reconciliation and strengthening relationships with First Peoples across Victoria. This means we promote respect, self-determination, and justice for and with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. Our work is guided by local Aboriginal voices and focuses primarily on an audience of 97% of non-Indigenous Victorians.

We work closely with and facilitate connections with local reconciliation groups, other community groups, the education sector, and state and local government partners.

We promote reconciliation all-year-round and organise reconciliation activities across Victoria.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

The Communications Officer reports to the Projects & Office Manager and is focused on promoting Reconciliation Victoria’s work and sharing key messages across our communication platforms. This includes developing content, supporting our projects and campaigns and producing and distributing electronic newsletters and digital content (website and social media).

You will work closely with colleagues to ensure that Reconciliation Victoria’s communication is clear, engaging, timely, and reflects our strategic priorities.The position requires high level written communication, project implementation and interpersonal skills, including the capacity to juggle multiple competing priorities and relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

Specifically, in this role, you will:

  • Maintain and strengthen Reconciliation Victoria’s communications guided by our Strategic Plan, Communication Strategy and Work Plan.
  • Plan and deliver monthly eNews and any relevant eBlasts, ensuring distribution lists always remain current.
  • Maintain and update Maggolee and Reconciliation Victoria websites.
  • Schedule and coordinate event communications.
  • Administer design and branding projects, including apparel, banners, business cards, flyers, annual report, organisational documents, and e-signatures.
  • Develop advice, messages, statements, correspondence, and other communications to support Reconciliation Victoria.

ABOUT YOU

You will be part of a small team and must be able to demonstrate flexibility in achieving our organisational outcomes. You will also excel with managing multiple projects and competing priorities, while working with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

You will have relevant qualifications or experience in communications and community engagement, and be able to demonstrate your high level verbal and written communication skills.

You will have advanced computer and online website management skills (Microsoft Office, Webflow, Google Analytics, FB, LinkedIn, Twitter and YouTube). Strong design skills in Adobe and InDesign is also required.

You will also have a strong understanding of the historical and contemporary matters concerning Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples of and in Victoria.
