Mullum Mullum Indigenous Gathering Place (MMIGP) is an Aboriginal led community organisation in the Eastern Metropolitan Region of Melbourne.
MMIGP’s vision is to be a strong, proud, contemporary, culturally-connected and self- determined Aboriginal community.
MMIGP’s purpose is to provide a safe and welcoming environment for people to connect with culture, learn new skills and contribute to community health and wellbeing.
MMIGP supports the following enhanced outcomes for the Aboriginal community in the Eastern Metropolitan Region by providing a range of programs and activities that:
- Strengthen children, young people and their families;
- Promote cultural integrity and safety;
- Support to implement innovative community-based activities and solutions;
- Promote collaboration and inclusiveness based on community-driven priorities;
- Develop strong partnerships between Aboriginal and mainstream services;
- Develop stronger partnerships with the Government; and
- Promote Healthy well-being and longevity.
THE ROLE
The role of CEO, reporting to the Board, is now available. This is a 12 month contract role, that will see the successful candidate:
- Deliver the strategic plan through the development and implementation of operational activities to achieve the vision, objectives and goals of the strategic plan within a self determination framework;
- Ensure financial sustainability through a proactive approach to seeking and securing funding and other revenue streams;
- Oversee the re-development and building of purpose-built premises;
- Lead, support and develop the team, role modelling MMIGP ‘s values and encouraging collaboration, program excellence and innovation;
- Engage with key external stakeholders and connect and engage with Elders and other community members; and
- Communicate, consult with and report to the Board.
KEY SELECTION CRITERIA
The key selection criteria include being able to demonstrate strong:
- Understanding of the Victorian Aboriginal community and the ability to communicate effectively with Aboriginal people of all ages;
- Understanding of the specific cultural and historical issues that impact Aboriginal people particularly in response to inter-generational trauma and the Stolen Generations;
- Understanding the principles of self determination and cultural safety and have the ability to translate these into effective work practises;
- Ability to provide leadership and direction within a complex and challenging environment;
- High level strategic, conceptual and analytical skills;
- Successful strategic plan implementation track record;
- Ability to build a positive, culturally strong organisation and be able to lead people and change effectively;
- Stakeholder management skills and the ability forge and strengthen partnerships and collaborations;
- Understanding of government funding and reporting with experience in managing compliance with funding body requirements and legislation; and
- Experience working with and taking direction from a Board.
Your ability to demonstrate integrity, understanding and patience is critical to build trust and empower the team to work autonomously and effectively. The candidate must be culturally aware and inclusive with a strong client and community focus. In addition, you will also be open and transparent, self disciplined and motivated.
