The Electrical Trades Union Victorian Branch is a trade union which represents approximately 20,000 members in Victoria. Our members work across the electrical and communications contracting industry, power, manufacturing, education, hospitality, aerospace, food and other industries. Together, we fight for the best conditions for electrical workers across Australia and ensure their workplace safety. The ETU's office is located in Arden St, North Melbourne. The work culture is friendly and supportive and offers a work/life balance.

The ETU has a legal department currently made up of two Lawyers and a Legal Assistant, who provide legal advice and representation to ETU members and Officials primarily in respect of a range of workplace and employment related matters such as unfair dismissals, unlawful terminations, discrimination, underpayments, general protections, industrial disputes, industrial action and agreement negotiations.

A vacancy has arisen in respect of one of the Lawyer positions.

In this role, you will perform work across all the areas mentioned above, alongside our existing Lawyer. This will include running and advocating such matters in the Courts and Tribunals. The position is on a full-time permanent basis.

The role will suit persons who:

  • Is sympathetic to the plight of workers;
  • Has a keen interest in industrial relations;
  • Is passionate about helping people;
  • Has experience in advocating and running cases in the Fair Work Commission;
  • Has the ability to deal with people who are experiencing stressful situations;
  • Possesses a solid set of drafting, research, advocacy and client facing skills.

Applicant Requirements:

  • A completed law degree;
  • Ideally have had at least 3-5 years’ experience in employment and workplace relations law;
  • Have a good understanding of the Fair Work Act;
  • Have experience in advocating/running cases in the Fair Work Commission.
