About the Role:

Reporting to a Principal Solicitor, the Paralegal is a member of a team who contributes administrative, research and other support functions to the full range of services provided by the Legal Branch. You will use your initiative, judgement, and communication skills to deliver high quality paralegal services, aligned to EPA’s strategic priorities, to prevent harm to Victorian communities and the environment from pollution and waste.

You will actively contribute to a positive organisational culture and achieve the highest standards of performance and integrity; fostering genuine partnerships across all levels of government, industry, and community to deliver organisational outcomes.

In this role you will:

  • Use your initiative to deliver allocated tasks aligned to organisational priorities in accordance with approved project or service plans, achieving the highest standards of performance, accountability, collaboration, ethics, and integrity.
  • Actively contribute to the development of a positive and high performing team culture, including by identifying and implementing opportunities to improve teamwork practices.
  • Deliver high-quality paralegal services and contribute to operational planning by sharing knowledge and expertise.
  • Conduct legal research, analyse results, investigate options, and provide recommendations; prepare draft reports and briefings within a project or policy framework.
  • Draft and review legal documents using the existing procedures.
  • Assist in preparation of briefs of evidence and associated court documents and maintaining database and monitoring court hearings and due dates.es.

Skills and Experience:

  • A relevant tertiary degree and/or post graduate qualifications in law is desirable.
  • Experience and a record of achievement providing paralegal services, preferably in Government would be advantageous.
  • Knowledge of the law and legal procedures applicable to a regulatory agency and understanding of procedural aspects of criminal and civil litigation or ability to quickly gain familiarity with relevant law and procedures.
  • Ability to apply relevant government legislation, regulations, reporting directives and procedures, to achieve optimal organisational outcomes.
  • A broad understanding of environmental regulation as it relates to pollution and waste is desirable.
  • Demonstrated capability to deliver tasks and achieve clearly defined outcomes; use initiative problem solve and identify, communicate risks and opportunities to improve organisational outcomes.
  • A proven record of achievement in a similar role contributing to organisational excellence, high standards of performance and a positive organisational culture.
