Board Members (Voluntary)

Environmental Justice Australia

Are you driven by a strong sense of justice? Ready to put your strategic thinking, critical insight, and ambition to work for frontline communities and the planet?

Environmental Justice Australia (EJA) is looking for passionate people to join our Board as non-executive directors. This is your chance to help guide a bold, values-driven organisation that works hand in hand with frontline communities to stand up for nature, climate and justice. If you believe in the power of people, value collaboration and diverse voices, and want to make a real impact – we’d love to hear from you.

EJA is a not-for-profit organisation governed by a Board who oversees the organisation’s strategy, financial health and fundraising, and key risks. We’re proud of our strong track record of stable, effective governance – supported by robust systems, clear policies and a committed team.

We’re strongly committed to equity and inclusion, and we’re looking for people who share these values. We warmly encourage applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, women, young people, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, LGBTQI+ communities, and people with disabilities.

About us

Environmental Justice Australia is a leading public interest legal organisation. Our lawyers and campaigners act on behalf of people and community organisations to safeguard health; protect magnificent forests, rivers and wildlife; and tackle the climate crisis. We partner with communities and other social justice organisations because we are stronger together.

Using innovative approaches, we find the best legal solutions to climate and environment issues. Our team works inside and outside the courtroom to make the system fair and just for all. We work on issues and in areas of Australia where we can have the most impact.

EJA is headed by co-CEOs, an innovative model that has proved stable and a sound basis for growth. EJA has more than doubled in size in the past four years, and is now an organisation with a $5 million annual turnover and 40 staff. Over 80% of EJA’s income is from philanthropic donations and grants from trusts and foundations. EJA’s latest financial report is here and our entry on the ACNC charities register can be viewed here.
