Elizabeth Morgan House Aboriginal Women’s Service Inc. (EMHAWS) is a specialist family violence organisation based in Melbourne. We are proudly an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation and have been in operation since 1976. EMHAWS takes direction and works consultatively with the community in all aspects of our services. Central to our work and business is the aim to provide advocacy and support for the empowerment of Aboriginal women, children, young people and the wider community.

The range of services we provide includes:

  • Crisis accommodation including a high security refuge for women experiencing family violence.
  • Culturally appropriate case management support to navigate the community services sector.
  • Tenancy advocacy and support
  • Counselling

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Aboriginal Group Facilitator will work as part of the EMHAWS Aboriginal Healing Unit (AHU) Team located in Dame Phyllis Frost Centre (DPFC) supporting the implementation and delivery of our therapeutic, cultural and Social and Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB) program / services to Aboriginal women currently in prison.

The program will deliver a range of integrated and targeted services to eligible Aboriginal women exiting prison. These services take a holistic approach and work towards improving the social and emotional wellbeing of Aboriginal women whilst in DPFC. The service will be delivered by a multi-disciplinary team of qualified and skilled practitioners who will deliver a range of holistic services including therapeutic counselling, intensive case management and group cultural activities.

  1. The Aboriginal Group Facilitator will develop and deliver workshops and group sessions focused on supporting Aboriginal women in the prison to overcome challenges and strengthen their capacity to heal from trauma, improve relationships, problem-solve, build self esteem and connect to culture.
  2. This role will be expected to deliver group facilitation activities to Aboriginal women located in different locations, including in DPFC prison (minimum 1 day per week) and in the broader community (based at EMH in Heidelberg). The role also allows flexibility with working from home and hybrid options (to be negotiated with manager).
