Who are we?

Elder Rights Advocacy (ERA) supports older people, their families and representatives in Victoria address issues related to Commonwealth funded aged care services. Our service is free, independent, and confidential.

We promote the rights of older people and ensure that that their voice is heard.

Our job is to provide information that empowers older people to make informed decisions about the care and services they receive and to stand beside them when they raise issues or concerns with aged care providers.

We are a founding member of the national Older Persons Advocacy Network (OPAN), delivering the National Aged Care Advocacy Program (NACAP) and the Aged Care Volunteer Visitor Scheme (ACVVS).

All staff at ERA work remotely from home and come together for one-day meetings in Melbourne CBD approximately every six-eight weeks. Staff are set up with equipment in their homes that is OH&S compliant. We take very seriously the health and wellbeing of our staff who told us they wished to work remotely post COVID restrictions. We can now service our clients more effectively as we draw our workforce from across Victoria.

The Opportunity

An opportunity has arisen for a dynamic Senior Team Leader to join our team supporting our Aged Care Advocacy team. Reporting directly to the Programs Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring our Advocates are highly trained to deliver advocacy, information and education sessions that supports clients to ensure they are sufficiently informed and empowered to make their own choices and have their rights and interests respected and upheld.

As the Senior Team Leader you will be responsible for the leadership and support of our NACAP to ensure successful delivery.

You will play a pivotal role in guiding and mentoring a high-performing team to achieve strategic goals. You will oversee daily operations of NACAP and ensure that team members are engaged, motivated, and aligned with the company’s objectives.

The role will be required to travel across Victoria and interstate on an ad hoc basis to attend meetings and conferences with occasional weekend work required.

Key responsibilities include:

  • 4 direct reports, 30 indirect reports
  • Lead a high performing advocacy team which meets contractual KPIs.
  • Develop and mentor team members to ensure they are appropriately skilled to deliver high quality services.
  • Facilitate effective communication and collaboration within the team and with other departments.
  • Analyse performance metrics and generate reports to track progress and identify areas for improvement.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives and implement best practices.
  • Ensure data is being recorded and counted accurately to meet contractual KPIs.
  • Set clear performance expectations, monitor, and analyse key performance indicators (KPI’s), identify areas for improvement and provide regular feedback to team members at one on one meetings.
  • Coordinate training and continuous learning initiatives aimed at enhancing team members' skills and knowledge, while ensuring adherence to all relevant policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders
  • Participate in external committees, attend peak body meetings and conferences as directed by Programs Manager.
  • Ensure the voices of older Victorians are heard through our collaborative work with external stakeholders, either through direct contact, reporting, or membership of Advisory groups.
  • Preparation of the quarterly report to meet contractual obligations.

Selection Criteria

  • Demonstrated experience working at a leadership level at least 2 years’ experience.
  • Demonstrated experience managing a similar sized team is essential
  • Experience working in the aged care and/or community home care sectors is essential.
  • High level knowledge of the aged care sector legislation essential.
  • Advocacy experience desirable but not essential.
  • Experience working with CRM systems, Salesforce desirable.
  • IT savvy is advantageous.
  • High level knowledge and understanding of relevant legislative frameworks.
  • A collaborative, self-aware leader with the ability to adapt to changes that may arise in the aged care industry.
  • High level problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • The ability to lead and mentor high performing teams.
  • A strong commitment to ensuring the voices of older Victorians are heard.
  • A current National Police check or willingness to undergo a check.
  • Fully vaccinated for COVID-19 or medical exemption

Remuneration and Benefits

  • $58.23 + 11.5% superannuation
