The purpose of the Bowel Cancer Research Program Officer (Clinical Trial Coordinator) position is to facilitate the implementation of a pilot general practice-led intervention to increase National Bowel Cancer Screening Program (NBCSP) participation, conducted within general practices in predetermined locations.

This position is part of the MAIL, GP & SCALE project and will work closely with the project team, led by the Daffodil Centre’s Gastrointestinal Cancers Policy and Evaluation Stream Lead to ensure the smooth functioning of the pilot trial. This includes undertaking participant recruitment, data collection, field work and implementation of strategies to support the use of the intervention within general practice.

The maintenance of professional working relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders including general practice, research institutes, other PHNs and Local Health Districts will be a key requirement of the position to ensure high quality project outcomes. The Program Officer will also be required to support health system integration, a person centred approach, and working to improve quality improvement in general practice related to cancer screening and control.

The Bowel Cancer Research Program Officer (Clinical Trial Coordinator) will be expected to work collaboratively with different CESPHN teams to leverage and apply our collective expertise to achieve service and organisational outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate research activities in accordance with ethics-approved procedures, which may include recruiting and consenting participants, extracting patient data, facilitating data collection and maintaining accurate records.
  • Undertake consultations with trial participants and develop strategies to support the implementation of the intervention.
  • Undergo training in implementation science provided by the University of New South Wales Implementation to Impact Hub.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with collaborators, research team members and general practices.
  • Ensure confidentiality and privacy of study participants by ensuring paper and electronic data, consent forms and study records are stored securely.

Selection criteria – essential

  • A tertiary qualification in a health-related field.
  • An understanding of research processes and experience working in the Australian health system.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of computer software applications including Outlook, Excel and health service databases.
  • Demonstrated high level written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, and the ability to maintain diplomacy in internal and external correspondence.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision and show initiative to solve problems independently.
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, and to build working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the need to adhere to information privacy and confidentiality guidelines.
