Eastern Domestic Violence Service (EDVOS) is a leading specialist family violence service in Victoria. Our work is focused across seven Local Government Areas including Boroondara, Manningham, Whitehorse, Monash, Knox, Maroondah and Yarra Ranges. Some of our training, education and primary prevention programs are national. EDVOS is predominantly funded to work with women and children. It is recognised that being female is the biggest risk factor for experiencing family violence.
EDVOS acknowledges that family violence can take many forms such as intimate partner violence, child abuse, elder abuse, carer abuse, parental abuse and sibling abuse. Our specialist family violence response services are mostly directed towards women, including women from the lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and intersex (LGBTI) communities, children, pets and other animals, who are responding to any form of family violence.
EDVOS is committed to assisting all people, regardless of ethnicity, race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, age and ability within our community and can also provide access to other family violence services that are most suitable to the individual’s unique needs and goals.
The purpose of the After Hours Response – Family Violence (AHRFV) program is to improve the capacity of the family violence services system and to provide a 24 hour, 7 day week response to family violence. The SFVA will provide phone as well as face- to -face support for women and children, who are experiencing family violence and require immediate support between 5pm and 9am on the following day (weekdays) and at any time on weekends and public holidays. AHRFV provides high quality service responses including information, advocacy, risk assessment, referral and safety planning.
The SFVA will respond to after-hours referrals from Safe Steps Family Violence Response Centre between 5pm and 8pm and be on-call between 8pm and 9am on the following day. They will work from EDVOS office in Ringwood between 2pm and 8pm between Monday and Wednesday.
During the on-site hours prior to 5pm, the SFVA will complete documentation or reporting duties for the AHRFV program, manage stock levels for material aid, and assist the Assessment and Response Team as required. From 5pm, the SFVA will take inbound calls to the AHRT phone, from SSFVRC. The SFVA will assess the referrals and follow-up with the referred client to provide support as required. When required, the SFVA will liaise with the Manager on Duty (during EDVOS business hours) or the rostered Management Consult for advice or support.
