About Edge Effect

Edge Effect is a specialist diverse SOGIESC (aka LGBTIQ+) humanitarian and development sector organisation.

We work with donors, UN agencies, NGOs and CSOs to ensure the rights, needs and strengths of people with diverse sexual orientations, gender identities and expressions and sex characteristics are addressed in humanitarian and development sector policy and programs. Edge Effect implements development projects in some countries and works within some humanitarian response settings, and also provides consulting services to other organisations.

Edge Effect began operations in 2017 and is a small and feisty organisation with big plans for the future.

About The Position

The Training and Community Officer is a new position at Edge Effect. The person in this role will coordinate Edge Effect’s service provision for the humanitarian and development sectors in the areas of online training and communities of practice.

The primary focus on this position is training. You will be responsible for developing and managing a suite of hybrid in-person and online training courses as part of Edge Effect’s core training offerings. You will also development and manage training associated within specific projects implemented by Edge Effect.

This work will involve curriculum and content development and management of contract instructional designers and content developers. You will also develop outreach plans and manage onboarding and progression of student cohorts. Delivery of this training will be a shared responsibility involving coordination with other Edge Effect staff.

A secondary focus for this position is support for communities of practice within our platform and within other projects where we co-coordinate communities of practice. In this role you would support membership and content curation activities.

The Training and Community Officer will report to the Head of Programs. As Edge Effect is an evolving organisation, the role will evolve with it and with it the opportunity for the right candidate to grow their skills and experience.

Selection Criteria

The successful candidate will have skills and experience in the following areas, which must be addressed in the application template:

Training

  • Awareness of contemporary approaches to adult learning and ways of working compatible with our commitment to participatory methods and challenging tokenism in inclusion.
  • Developing and delivering engaging curriculum-based training courses and content, preferably including in-person, online self-paced and facilitated delivery, and hybrid modes.
  • Working with thematic content specialists to develop engaging training that draws upon their expertise Managing contract trainers, instructional designers and developers to deliver to briefs.
  • Coordinating outreach/marketing or similar skills/experience relevant for building sector awareness of our training offerings and for achieving contracts and purchases.
  • Coordinating customer experiences from onboarding through all stages of training.
  • Familiarity with training content management systems such as Thinkific.

Community of Practice

  • Awareness of the purpose of communities of practice and what makes communities of practice work well.
  • Outreach to build awareness and membership of communities of practice.
  • Coordination of communities of practice member experiences.

Cross-cutting

  • Experience working on LGBTIQ+ issues and with LGBTIQ+ people.
  • Ability to organise work, coordinate multiple tasks, meet deadlines, work in a professional environment, work under pressure, and work within a multi-cultural team.
  • Excellent time and project management skills.
  • At least 3 years of experience in similar roles.

Important Notes

Edge Effect is based in Australia but is open to candidates working in any country where you are legally eligible to work. This includes digital nomads. As some tasks involve working with Australia-based staff, candidates in other time-zones may need to work some flexible hours. As Edge Effect works globally, work may also fall outside of regular office-hours regardless of home time-zone. The position will require extended desk-based work and use of computer systems.
