ABOUT US:

Edgar’s Mission is a not for profit sanctuary for rescued farmed animals that seeks to create a humane and just world for humans and non-humans. Set on 153 peaceable acres situated just outside of Lancefield, the sanctuary is nestled in the tranquillity of the Macedon Ranges.

Edgar’s Mission rescues, rehabilitates, rehomes or provides life-long sanctuary to farmed animals in need. At any one time we provide a safe haven to between 350 and 450 farmed animals. Through education, outreach, advocacy, community enrichment and sanctuary tours, we encourage people to expand their circle of compassion to include all animals.

POSITION PURPOSE:

To provide high-quality care for rescued farmed animals above and beyond basic animal care to ensure they have all the necessary conditions to have lives truly worth living. A key part of this role is working within a team to maintain and further the smooth running of the sanctuary in areas of hygiene, safety and animal health. Cleaning and maintaining animal housing and sanctuary grounds is a large aspect of this position.

KEY CRITERIA:

• Experience in the safe handling of farmed animals.
• High degree of physical fitness and the willingness to perform manual and hands-on work in all weather conditions.
• The ability to follow detailed instructions and use initiative to solve problems.
• Strong communications skills, including the ability to take and give constructive feedback and respond to the feedback accordingly.
• Excellent observational skills
• A professional, responsible and respectful approach to working as part of a team.
• Ability to work alone and unsupervised, and take accountability.
• A flexible and proactive attitude with the ability to adapt to changing needs and priorities on a daily basis.
• Good interpersonal skills with a positive attitude towards advocating on behalf of farmed animals.
• Reliable with excellent time management skills.
• Personal commitment to the goals and values of Edgar’s Mission and the promotion of kindness.
• A current driver’s licence.
• A current Police Check and Working with Children's Check will be required if successful.

DESIRABLE:

• Experience working at an animal sanctuary, shelter or advocacy organisation.
• Able to drive animal transport vehicles including a horse float.
