Psychologist / Program Director

Eating Disorders Families Australia
  • A career-defining role with a highly regarded national organisation
  • Lead the establishment of an Australia-first program to support and educate families and carers across Australia impacted by eating disorders
  • Empowering culture with WFH flexibility

Eating Disorders Families Australia (EDFA) was founded by a passionate group of parents who have cared for, and are caring for, young people with eating disorders. EDFA’s focus has now grown to include all carers and families of those of all ages with eating disorders, including partners, siblings, grandparents, and friends.

EDFA is dedicated to providing lived-experience support, education, and advocacy to empower families and carers in their journeys with their own loved ones. We understand and respect that everyone’s journey is different, and take an unbiased approach to treatment, clinicians, and pathways of care.

EDFA recently received a Federal Government grant to establish a free, online counselling service to families and carers to provide education and skills to help them become better supports and an effective part of the recovery team. This funding will initially support EDFA’s Fill The Gap program over a three-year period.

Be part of a small, but impactful team tasked with establishing EDFA's new counselling service to carers who have been impacted by caring for a loved one living with an eating disorder.

The EDFA team is fully remote - all work is done from home with only occasional travel for team meetings or conferences.

Lead the establishment of the ‘Fill The Gap Program’

EDFA is seeking an experienced Program Director to lead the development and management of counselling services aimed at providing free education and counselling to carers who are supporting a loved one through their eating disorder journey and recovery. This is a permanent part-time role of four days a week, providing time for some private practice.

The Program Director is a critical and career-defining role, working with the EDFA Board and the Executive Director to establish this innovative service program, service delivery, and ways of working. This is an instrumental role in setting the direction, program services, modes of operating, and support model.

Reporting to the Executive Director and leading a small professional team of counsellors, the Program Director will be responsible for program development and establishing governance, compliance, and policy frameworks. In addition, the role will be responsible for reporting and evaluating the program with the assistance of an Evaluation Assistant and the EDFA Research Committee.

The candidate will also provide counselling to carers when required.

The successful candidate

The ideal candidate will have registration with AHPRA as a general psychologist or clinical psychologist. An Australia New Zealand Academy of Eating Disorders (ANZAED) credential, or the intention to obtain the credential, is essential, as are full working rights in Australia. The successful candidate will have extensive experience in delivering psychology services and ideally, will have lived experience as a carer of someone with an eating disorder or have provided extensive services to those impacted by eating disorders. They will have experience in leading a team of professionals and will have provided coaching, mentoring, professional development, and supervision to those teams. They will be comfortable in leading a fully remote team that is empowered through trust.

EDFA is looking for an individual who has worked in leading similar program services and has experience in establishing counselling services – understanding of the various functions, systems, policies and procedures required to deliver a professional service.

You will be an influential leader, who combines critical thinking with high-order collaborative skills and can demonstrate a capacity to establish programs, empower others, and achieve collective outcomes.

A current Working With Children Check and Police Check are essential.

At EDFA, our mission is to ensure families and carers impacted by an eating disorder are supported, educated, and empowered. We enable families and carers to be more effective supports and recognised as an integral part of the recovery process for a loved one with an eating disorder.
