Eastern Community Legal Centre (ECLC) is a multidisciplinary legal service that works to prevent problems, progress fair outcomes and support the wellbeing and resilience of communities and community members in Melbourne’s East.

About the role

The position of Director – Operations, is responsible for providing leadership, management and oversight across key centre-wide services, as well as contributing to the development and strengthening of the Centre broadly. They are a key leader across the agency together with other Directors and the CEO.

The Directorate primarily encompasses three small teams, each with their own manager:

  • People and Wellbeing (including Human Resources, Volunteers and Wellbeing)  
  • Shared Services (including Facilities, Digital Workplace and outsourced Finance) 
  • Quality & Evaluation (including Program Support Office, Quality, Data and Risk Oversight

About You

We are seeking a proven leader from the community or community legal sector who has the capacity to lead and mentor a purpose driven team. 

With a demonstrated ability in project development, resourcing, management and evaluation within multi-disciplinary environments along with exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to engage and liaise with a diverse range of stakeholders. 

You will be a compassionate and empathetic person, who engages well with others, and contributes to a positive working environment You will be discrete and professional with the ability to work independently in a self-directed and self-motivated manner.

Specifically, you will have:

  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline  
  • Demonstrated experience in a similar role with responsibility of delivering key services within community and/or community legal sector. 
  • Proven leadership and management ability, and the capacity to identify and initiate change and to respond to changing circumstances and priorities 
  • Capacity to lead and model processes of supportive and constructive mentoring and supervision of staff and volunteers 
  • Demonstrated ability in project development, resourcing, management and evaluation with complex services in multi-disciplinary environments 
  • A demonstrated capacity to think and act strategically and exercise a high level of judgement 
  • Ability to diagnose organisational development issues and recommend appropriate strategies 
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and liaise successfully with a diverse range of stakeholders, particularly internally 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to produce high quality written and verbal reports 
  • Demonstrated group facilitation and leadership skills 
  • Ability to work independently in a self-directed and self-motivated manner 
  • Ability to contribute to a positive working environment 
  • Team orientation and collaboration skills 
  • Ability to manage multiple, competing priorities 
  • Discretion and professionalism 

This position is based across ECLC’s locations, which include Box Hill, Boronia and Healesville.
