Earth & Every

About Earth & Every

Earth & Every is a recently registered Australian environmental charity. We stand up for the rights of nature and seek justice under environmental laws for all living things on the planet. We work to ensure accountability, accessibility, transparency and just application of laws in relation to biodiversity, water resources and the climate.

We do this by using regulatory expertise and science to support clear and evidence-based decision-making by government bodies. We work closely with First Nations people, conservation organisations and community groups to ensure the conservation of biodiversity and ecological integrity.

What is the role?

The board will be responsible for acting with reasonable care and diligence, acting in the best interest of the organisation and managing finances responsibly.

As a new organisation, the focus of the board over the next year will be to:

  • establish the foundations for fundraising;
  • develop and refine a business plan; and
  • develop a metric for measuring our impact.

Specific responsibilities will include:

  • becoming familiar Earth & Every’s mission, vision and needs;
  • reading and understanding Earth & Every’s financial statements;
  • preparing for, attending and participating in board meetings;
  • advising the CEO on implementing Earth & Every’s strategic plan; and
  • working with the Board to approve and monitor Earth & Every’s annual budget, audit reports and material business decisions and managing risk and internal compliance, controls and policies.

What WILL you get out of it?

Becoming a Non-Executive Director is an opportunity to:

  • develop leadership skills as you tackle problems, weigh up risks and work with other board members;
  • grow and deepen your network as you work on complex issues that require high levels of cooperation;
  • learn more about an environmental start-up’s operations, including how it grows, implements internal processes and develops its own unique culture.

Ideal attributes for the role

  1. Culture – We are searching for someone who is a good fit with our team values and culture. Our team is courageous, collaborative, passionate, seeks excellence and acts with integrity. We seek to foster a culture where we communicate with clarity, listen to each other, and treat each other with kindness.
  2. Characteristics - We would like to find a board member that meets 3 out of the following 5 criteria:
  • Passion for the environment - We are searching for someone who has had a longstanding passion for conserving the environment in the areas of biodiversity, climate or water.
  • Time - We are searching for someone with extra time or resources to help us set Earth & Every up.
  • Diversity - We are searching for someone who can add diverse experience to our team, be it through age, gender, ethnicity or experiences.
  • Expertise/Skills - We are searching for someone with expertise in finance, accounting, management, law, media, marketing, and/or fundraising. Previous board experience or training would be a plus. Scientists with expertise in areas related to biodiversity, water and the climate are also welcome to apply.
  • Innovation/creative thinking - We are searching for creative thinkers and problem-solvers because the environmental field is evolving quickly and our team is always pushing the boundaries of what is possible.

Board terms

Board Members will serve a one-year term and, at the end of this time, will be eligible for reappointment. Board meetings will be held every two months. Participation will be via Zoom or Teams.
