The Early Intervention Psychosocial Support Response (EIPSR) program is a joint partnership between Eastern Health and EACH providing both clinical and psychosocial supports to Mental Health Consumers incorporating a holistic strength-based approach enabling Consumers to identify their individual recovery needs.

  • Part-time (0.2FTE) opportunity until June 2025
  • Based across both our Boronia and Box Hill offices
  • $41- $45.5 (depending on experience) + 11% Super + Generous Salary Packaging benefits of up to $18,550    

Job Description

As Carer Peer Support Worker you will form effective and empathic carer peer relationships utilising your lived experience of supporting someone through recovery from mental health challenges, to support carers through their own journey.

Responsibilities of the role include:

  • Assisting carers in strengthening their ability to participate in their community by getting to know them and their interests as well as their relationships with friends and family.
  • Acting as a role model for strength and resilience, inspiring those who may struggle in their own carer role, advising them on how to overcome the difficulties and barriers.
  • Providing one on one carer peer support, single session family consultations, carer education groups and carer support groups.
  • Providing opportunities to discuss problem solving strategies, reflecting on helpful and unhelpful behaviours.
  • Working as part of a team in assisting carers to engage with the practices associated with the EACH Recovery Model.
  • Working collaboratively with EIPSR staff and service providers to improve understanding of family or relational recovery and build capacity to provide holistic, inclusive and recovery oriented mental health services.

Who we are looking for

The successful applicant will have personal experience of caring for or supporting someone experiencing mental health problems, substance dependence and/or trauma, and a demonstrated experience of recovery. Along with the ability and willingness to share own experiences of recovery with others for the benefit of advancing their recovery.

As Carer Peer Support Worker you will have:

  • Previous experience in a similar role.
  • Experience of the public or private mental health system, along with an appreciation and understanding of the not-for-profit sector.
  • Understanding of trauma-informed care and harm minimisation approaches to the treatment and management of persons with a Dual Diagnosis (substance misuse and mental health issues).
  • Experience in facilitating groups (highly desired).
  • Knowledge and understanding of mental illness and the impact that it can have on social, family, recreational, education/training, vocation and day to day needs of the individual.

Qualifications

  • Intentional Peer Support core training certificate or relevant carer trainings, such as single session family consultation.
  • Group facilitation training.
  • Current state-based driver’s license.
