The eSafety Commissioner is an independent statutory office holder supported by staff from the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA). eSafety is the world’s first government agency solely dedicated to tackling online abuse and keeping its citizens safer online.
eSafety is looking for a skilled mixed methods researcher with a sound understanding of program evaluation or applied research to support the design, delivery and dissemination of high-quality evaluations of eSafety’s programmatic and regulatory online safety initiatives. This role supports the implementation of eSafety’s evaluation activities, including developing program logic models, conducting literature reviews, undertaking fieldwork, and contributing to the analysis, triangulation and interpretation of data. You will support a flourishing culture of learning and evaluation through participatory evaluation approaches and capacity building activities. You will also assist in preparing high-quality evaluation reports and presentations and contribute to the development of peer-reviewed journal articles.
You will work alongside an established and expert mixed-methods research team working on projects that inform strategy, policy and programs to address issues such as cyberbullying, parenting in the digital age, and image-based abuse. Our key audiences include children and young people, parents and communities at increased risk of experiencing online harms, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, LGBTQI+ people, people with disability and culturally and linguistically diverse people.
Suitable candidates may be placed in a merit pool from this selection process and the pool may be used to fill similar ongoing or non-ongoing roles. Non-ongoing vacancies filled from a merit pool may be offered as a specified term. Applicants may have their application and assessment results shared with other Australian Public Service (APS) agencies looking to fill similar roles.
Our ideal candidate will be a passionate mixed methods researcher/evaluator dedicated to eSafety’s mission of keeping all Australians safer online. In particular, you will have excellent critical thinking and analytical skills, and well-developed interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to communicate research/evaluation methods and findings in plain, simple, and engaging language, and a strong interest and/or experience in program evaluation.
You will be a flexible, independent, curious, and exceptionally well-organised individual who is comfortable with problem-solving and multi-tasking. The ability to communicate and build rapport with people from a range of backgrounds and experiences is essential.
To be eligible for employment with eSafety, applicants must be an Australian citizen. You must also have a current Working with Children check (or equivalent) or be willing to obtain one.
