About the Organisation

In Safe and Equal is the peak body for specialist family violence services that support victim survivors in Victoria. We are an independent, non-government organisation that leads, organises, advocates for, and acts on behalf of our members – with a focus across the continuum from primary prevention through to response and recovery. We work towards a world beyond family and gender-based violence, where women, children and all people from marginalised communities are safe, thriving and respected.

The Role

Safe and Equal provide services to support private sector businesses to strengthen their family violence policies, procedures, awareness and capabilities. Support for organisations include the review of customer facing policy and process, as well as a unique 6-stage service that spans a range of activity including organisational assessment, policy consultation, consultative workshops, training, and tailored resources.

To help deliver on this, we have opened recruitment for a Sessional Advisor. The position description for this role captures a range of skills and experience, including workplace policy review and recommendations, group facilitation and delivering capability building offerings. This role will sit within our Communications Team.

Here are some examples of what you will achieve in the next 12 months as a Sessional Advisor:

  • Provide consulting services across a range of areas for organisations, including the review and development of workplace policy and procedures and implementation advice.
  • Facilitate consultative workshops and other identified offerings for participants from a wide range of backgrounds and organisations across Australia.
  • Work with lived experience advocates in co-facilitation of workshops and the review of workplace materials and processes.
  • Design, develop and review high quality workshops and materials relating to workplace and business responses to family and gender violence. These materials will be for a range of audiences to support delivery of fee for service offerings with workplaces.

We're looking for candidates who have:

  • A tertiary qualification in social work, public policy, community development, human services or welfare and/or vocational education and training (or equivalent experience)
  • Lived experience and/or a sophisticated understanding of the ways that gender inequality intersects with other forms of inequality and oppression to exacerbate family violence risk factors and limit people’s access to services, support and safety
  • Experience working in family violence response or primary prevention
  • Experience in consulting on policies, strategies, frameworks, etc.
  • High level written communications skills with particular experience in policy review, critical analysis and/or report writing
  • Excellent facilitation and group work skills, including the ability to work with resistance and support whole of organisation culture change conversations
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills, with the ability to build trusting, collaborative relationships and experience engaging with multiple, diverse stakeholders
  • Sound computer skills, with experience in organising and facilitating online meetings and workshops.
