In 2021, Domestic Violence Victoria (DV Vic) and the Domestic Violence Resource Centre Victoria (DVRCV) merged to become a new entity – Safe and Equal. Connecting strength, capacity, and resources for greater impact, Safe and Equal is the peak body for Victoria’s specialist family violence services supporting victim survivors.

We also consider applicants regardless of contact with the justice system and experiences of criminalisation, consistent with our legal requirement.

We are committed to foster a work environment where everybody can bring their whole self, belong and succeed, and we are a proud Equal Opportunity employer who do not tolerate any form of discrimination or harassment. We celebrate and support difference and know that one size doesn’t fit all – we endeavour to be flexible, meet your needs, and support you at every stage of your contact with us.

The Role

In line with the organisation’s purpose and strategic plan, this role works closely with the Manager, Strategic Projects and Engagement and colleagues to sustain and scale work focused on consumer participation, survivor advocacy and centring lived experience in the design, delivery, and evaluation of family violence system responses.

Here are some examples of what you will undertake in the next 2 years:

  • Coordinate internal and external engagement bookings with casual Lived Experience team members, maintaining visibility of availability, conducting engagement briefings/de-briefings, managing bookings, timesheets, invoicing
  • Create an inclusive and trauma informed space, including regular wellbeing conversations, safety planning and referral to other services as required.
  • Respond to enquiries from organisations looking to work with lived experience expertise and provide them with guidance and advice for meaningful engagements.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for systems refinement and program growth
  • Convene our Expert Advisory Panel, our internal lived experience strategic advisory group

The right person for this role will have a strong combination of the following skills and experience:

  • Lived experience, or a demonstrated, sophisticated understanding of the ways that gender inequality intersects with other forms of inequality and oppression to limit people’s access to services, support, and safety
  • Relevant tertiary education (or equivalent experience) in social work, community development, or another relevant field
  • Experience implementing and maintaining systems and processes that support the safety and wellbeing of survivor advocates, lived experience consultants or other similar roles, including briefing and de-briefing wellbeing planning, risk and safety assessment, establishing guidelines and boundaries for privacy, confidentiality and technology safety
  • Exceptional, proactive communication and interpersonal skills, including ability to build trusting, collaborative relationships
  • Excellent, detail-oriented coordination and administration skills, with a demonstrated interest in continuous process improvement
