The Mensline team

At DVConnect our Mensline team consists of highly experienced practitioners that operate a virtual frontline service for men experiencing violence in their relationships and men who choose to use violence. Reaching out for support is an extremely brave thing to do and our practitioners are there to develop and facilitate individualised pathways for a life free from violence and fear.

Senior Practitioner key responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Mensline Team Leader to provide crucial support and guidance to the counselling team, ensuring adherence to HSQF standards.
  • Foster a culture of clarity, collaboration, and adaptability within the team, emphasising the importance of reflective practice.
  • Conduct professional risk assessments to maximise client safety and maintain perpetrator accountability.
  • Provide constructive guidance, debriefing, and mentoring to enhance staff performance and consistency in service delivery.
  • Actively engage in crisis calls, assessing needs and managing risks effectively while maintaining high standards of client record-keeping.
  • Support counsellors within the START project, working closely with the Team Leader and Service Delivery Manager.
  • Collaborate with the Quality and Training team to undertake additional activities as needed, such as staff induction and skill development sessions.
  • Maintain flexibility in approach to adapt to evolving needs of the team and support broader quality and training initiatives.

Role requirements

  • Tertiary qualification(s) in Psychology or Social Work or other similar qualification(s) or other qualifications and experience/expertise acceptable to DVConnect.
  • Demonstrated 2 years’ experience in the provision of professional counselling, advocacy, and related crisis work for men, preferably in the area of domestic violence.
  • Professional experience in assessing indicators of whether the caller is a person who uses violence or one who is subjected to violence in his personal relationship and demonstrated ability to respond appropriately to this assessment.
  • Leadership skills evidenced by previous experience in training, guiding, and/or supporting a team, particularly in environments where new processes are being established.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Domestic and Family Violence Act 2012, Domestic Violence Orders and Child Protection Act 1999 (or ability to rapidly acquire).
  • Skills and knowledge in the area of gender-based violence, specifically with those that use domestic and family violence.
  • Significant demonstrated ability to manage complex and competing projects within agreed timeframes including planning, implementation, and coordination of key deliverables.
  • and effective interpersonal, communication, conflict resolution, presentation and engagement/consultation skills using a range of contemporary engagement practices.
  • Commitment to social justice, DVConnect values and its’ role in delivering services to people impacted by violence and abuse.
  • The position may involve some out of hours work, shift flexibility is highly regarded.

Remuneration and Benefits

  • Social Community Home Care Disability Award Level 5 (dependent on qualifications and experience) + superannuation.
  • Salary package up to $15,990 per financial year.
