queerspace (drummond street services) is seeking an experienced professional to provide counselling and case management to people within LGBTIQ+ communities who have experienced or are at risk of experiencing family and intimate partner violence.

queerspace is an LGBTIQ+ specialist health and well-being service, which provides a range of supports including counselling, groupwork, peer-based recovery support and case work, to individuals, people in relationships, and to children and young people and their families. queerspace offers a safe and supportive space for queer, trans and gender diverse and gender questioning people to engage in counselling, family therapy, group support services and supports for their families. queerspace also provides specialist family and intimate partner violence services to LGBTIQ+ people experiencing or at risk of these forms of violence. As part of our work in this sector, we also train and provide consultancy services to the broader family and intimate partner violence sector.

The queerspace Practitioner, will join a growing LGBTIQ+ specialist program within drummond street services.

ROLE

In this role you will:

  • Use counselling and case management expertise and family violence knowledge informed by a queer feminist gendered approach, to provide ongoing individual and family counselling and case planning, case management and review to those who have been impacted by family and intimate partner violence including from family of origin
  • Conduct comprehensive Family violence Risk assessments and other risk assessments as appropriate with clients 
  • Support clients to identify and increase safety within their family and community environments and relationships 
  • Provide housing, financial/income, education and employment support, inclusive of advocacy with mainstream services 
  • Complete applications for brokerage funds on behalf of clients 
  • Provide referrals to internal and external support services 
  • Assist clients in building social and community supports and connections 
  • Work collaboratively with other services to identify and address services gaps and client needs including attending care team meetings as required
  • Input quality case records into relevant client case management record systems (ds client data base, and SHIP)
  • Contribute to the achievement of individual, team and organisational program targets and KPIs as per contractual agreements with funders and those determined by drummond street services
  • Work to the professional standards required by your professional association as well as by DS’ Code of Conduct, its policies and procedures
  • Represent the organisation positively with a range of external health, social services and other relevant providers

ESSENTIAL / DESIRABLE CRITERIA

  • Tertiary qualification in family violence, family therapy, social work, counselling or other relevant discipline
  • Minimum two years’ experience in counselling and case work or equivalent activities
  • Demonstrated experience working in family violence
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and/or experience in working with LGBTIQ+ communities
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team 
  • Quality administrative capacities
