About Drummond Street & The Drum

The Drum is the youth services branch of Drummond Street Services, supporting young people (10–25) to connect, participate, and realise their potential as healthy, resilient, and respected community members. All our work is grounded in youth-led, strengths-based and community development approaches, ensuring young people’s voices are central and respected. 

About the Role

As the Multicultural Youth Engagement Practitioner, you'll be part of a small, passionate team of practitioners, peer leaders, and student placements focused on delivering culturally safe and responsive case management and programs to young people from multicultural and emerging communities. The practitioner will work within Drummond Street’s Family Services Model of Practice to provide holistic support to young people and their families, strengthen community connections, and ensure culturally inclusive programming.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering culturally responsive case management services to young people aged 10–17, with a focus on multicultural and emerging communities.
  • Overseeing the delivery of 2–4 group sessions per week during school terms, plus excursions/events during school holidays.
  • Working collaboratively to design and deliver engaging, relevant youth programs.
  • Contributing to quality governance, compliance, and reporting as needed.
  • Building meaningful connections with young people to link them with further support when required.

About You

We’re looking for someone who is passionate about youth work, grounded in social justice, and confident working in dynamic environments.

Key Selection Criteria

  • Lived experience and/or strong community connection with multicultural and emerging communities.
  • Experience in providing culturally safe, trauma-informed case management.
  • Strong understanding of settlement and migration issues facing young people and families.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Youth Work, Social Work, or a related field.
  • High-level written and verbal communication skills.
  • A commitment to Child Safe Standards and creating safe environments.
  • A collaborative, reliable work ethic with strong time management.
  • A passion for co-design and centring youth voice in all aspects of programming.
  • Energy, creativity and initiative to plan, deliver, and evaluate youth engagement programs.
