About the Opportunity

drummond street has a fantastic opportunity for a Manager Inner Melbourne Family Services to join their Family Services Team, primarily working across our Collingwood, North Melbourne and Carlton sites (full time until June 2024 with the option of extension dependent on funding).

drummond street deliver early intervention case work, counselling and group supports to vulnerable families with children and young people who are showing early signs of, or are at risk of developing, mental illness. We use a developmental and whole of family, family life course approach – supporting children, young people and their families through key vulnerable transitions (pregnancy, infancy, childhood, adolescence - and adverse life events) with a focus on early in life. We provide interventions across the spectrum of promotion, prevention, early intervention and recovery interventions. We target risk and protective factors for wellbeing in domains of individuals, families, community and society. 

Our services are open to all children, young people and families but assertively engage those experiencing marginalisation and/or discrimination, including First Nations, public housing residents, people of colour, LGBTIQA+, people with disability, trauma survivors, women (including those justice involved) and children. 

As the Manager you will have leadership responsibilities for a Place Based approach to service responses for individuals, families and communities residing in a particular place or geographical region. You will ensure our integrated service response remains unique and innovative, that our programs are co-designed, respond to local families and are planned and delivered in collaboration with the range of drummond street services delivered at the Place. Your leadership responsibilities involve building partnerships, stakeholder management, leadership and management to plan, deliver, promote, evaluate our co-design strategies, engagement programs, case work, counselling and group supports.

About You

As the Manager you will have leadership responsibilities for Family Services and our Place Based approach, working with other organisational leaders to guide and inspire staff. You will ensure our service model remains unique and innovative; that our programs are co-designed and respond to local families; and we meet our contractual requirements. Your leadership responsibilities also involve building partnerships, stakeholder management, leadership and management of a team to plan, deliver, promote, evaluate our co-design strategies, engagement programs, case work, counselling and group supports. Drawing on your experience with working with marginalised communities, including public housing residents, First Nations, people of colour, LGBTIQA+ people and people with disability, you will contribute leadership to drummond street’s efforts to develop Place Based Approaches.

Selection Criteria 

Essential 

  • Tertiary qualification in Social Work, Family Therapy or Psychology and further training in relation to families work
  • A minimum of five years’ experience in the family services and/or mental health sectors
  • Demonstrated experience supervising and developing multidisciplinary staff, including staff with lived experience. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of a range of therapeutic approaches for individuals, couples, families and specifically children and young people.
  • Demonstrated experience with co-design and co-production approaches to service delivery
  • Demonstrated experience with providing counselling and casework that supports children and families with multiple and complex needs such as mental health, family violence and substance abuse issues.
  • Demonstrated high level written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience working with groups experiencing marginalisation and/or discrimination, including public housing residents First Nations, public housing residents, people of colour, LGBTIQA+ people and people with disability.

Highly Desirable

  • You identify as a Public Housing resident, as well as other communities with whom ds assertively engages.
