Position Description

This position will be responsible for managing the implementation and delivery of the Information for Life project across Australia. The Information for Life project aims to create and disseminate high quality and practical information about Down syndrome in multiple formats and mediums for people with Down syndrome, their families, carers, disability services and mainstream organisations.

The Project Manager, with oversight from the Operations Manager, will be responsible for developing a nationally consistent approach to the delivery of the project.

Position Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and implement the national approach to the delivery of the Information for Life project in accordance with the Activity Work Plan agreed by the Department of Social Services (DSS).
  • Co-ordinate and facilitate monthly meetings of the National Resources Group and Project Implementation Group and provide secretariat for these Groups.
  • Conduct consultations including needs analyses, surveys, focus groups and interviews as needed to identify gaps in information provision to people with Down syndrome and their families.
  • Facilitate and deliver a national approach to information provision by supporting coordination and collaboration across the sub-contracted State and Territory organisation.
  • Coordinate the development, delivery and evaluation of webinars nationally in collaboration with the sub-contracted State and Territory organisation.
  • Develop and maintain the National Resources Register.
  • Manage and develop national resources for people with Down syndrome and their families working collaboratively with the sub-contracted State and Territory organisations to identify priorities and incorporate their feedback and expertise into national resources.
  • Disseminate and promote uptake of national information resources, the national website, app and toolkits.
  • Oversee the development of relevant, accessible and easy read information resources, materials and webinars in consultation with DSAN, Health Ambassadors and other stakeholders.
  • In collaboration with the Website Lead, update digital communications channels including the website and social media, and support the delivery of national communication campaigns.
  • Coordinate the provision of the National Information Line and responses to communications via email, phone, website and social media.
  • Evaluate the outcomes and reach of the project including key areas of support needs to inform any gaps or changes to service delivery.
  • Conduct regular project reporting.
  • Monitor budgets with oversight from the Operations Manager.
  • Liaise with external contractors.

Organisational Background

Down Syndrome Australia was established in 2011 as the peak body for people with Down syndrome in Australia. Our purpose is to influence social and policy change and provide a national profile and voice for people living with Down syndrome. Our work is rights-based and informed by the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

We work together with our members, partners and with other stakeholders to improve the lives of people with Down syndrome and their families across our communities. People with Down syndrome are involved in every part of the organisation including governance. Our vision is an inclusive society where people with Down syndrome have full participation and equal enjoyment of all human rights.

This position reports to the Operations Manager of Down Syndrome Australia.

Selection Criteria - Essential Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or equivalent experience
  • Experience in project management and communications
  • Strong commitment to inclusion of people with disabilities within the community
  • Experience with stakeholder management and negotiation
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Well-developed organisational skills and experience in the coordination of services and/or complex projects
  • Experience working on a non-for-profit or similar environment
  • Computer literacy using MS Word, Outlook, Excel

Work Environment

The Down Syndrome Australia staff work as a virtual team. This position may be based in an office or home environment. The nature of this role and its responsibilities deems that occasionally some work will be required outside normal business hours and some interstate travel will be required.

Acceptance of the position involves a willingness to work within the philosophies and policy directions of Down Syndrome Australia. The successful applicant will be required to undergo satisfactory preemployment checks including professional referees, completion of a satisfactory police records check and working with children check. The successful applicant will initially be employed for a probationary period of six months.
