You will work collaboratively with families and other professionals to resolve problems and keep children safe. Everything you do is in the best interest of children and young person.

Your Work

You will establish and maintain effective partnerships with children, young people, their families and services to provide quality, timely and effective intervention and case management services.

A day in the role of child safety officer could look like this:

  • engaging and supporting the child and family to promote safety, stability and development of the child and to strengthen family capacity
  • respond and investigate reports concerning children at risk of harm and undertake assessment of the child and circumstances
  • prepare and present information and documentation for relevant court processes
  • provide information to children, families and service providers on procedures, practices, guidelines and legislation regarding child safety and wellbeing

  • a demonstrated commitment to work with children, young people and their families
  • excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a proven ability to conduct work with integrity, honesty and confidentiality
  • ability to approach stressful situation utilising your problem solving skills and a commitment to strong personal strategies in building resilience

Essential requirements

You will be required to:

  • hold a tertiary qualification/program of study accredited by the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) and is a full member of AASW or is eligible for membership with the AASW
  • hold a current Registration to work with vulnerable people
  • meet pre-employment checks including conviction checks.
  • hold a current drivers licence
