We are seeking multiple Advanced Case Managers to join the team on a fixed term basis until 31 December 2020.

About us:

Adoption Services covers local adoption, inter-country adoption and Adoption Information Services and is part of the Regulation division of the Department of Justice and Community Safety. The Adoption Services team is aligned with the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages (BDM) and reports to the Registrar (BDM) and Director, Adoption Services.

Adoption is a lifelong process during which adopted persons, natural parents, natural relatives and adoptive parents seek information about, and contact with, one another.

Adoption Services delivers a range of services to people who have been affected by adoptions.

About the role:

The Advanced Case Manager role is responsible for the delivery of case management services to people with experiences of past Victorian state adoption who wish to access personal information and records.

In the role, you will provide mandated counselling services to clients with complex issues relating to grief and loss and trauma, attachment and identity issues related to separation. You will also: 

  • Case manage the most complex cases within the team
  • Provide counselling and support to parents wanting to give up their child for adoption
  • Assess people to be approved to adopt a child
  • Seek copies of adoption-related information
  • Help locate and contact (where possible) family members separated by adoption
  • Provide referrals to support and counselling services
  • Provide options counselling to parents

About you:

As our ideal candidate, you will have:

  • Strong stakeholder management capability
  • The ability to influence, negotiate and problem solve as well as self-manage and regulate to achieve empathetic outcomes
  • Knowledge of grief and loss, historical context of adoption, the relevant legislation and policy context and the ability to integrate these into work practices

A recognised Social Work degree or a similar welfare or behavioural related degree and/or a recognised Diploma of Community Services Work, or similar qualification is highly desirable.
