Are you passionate about training and development in mediation skills and conflict management?

An opportunity exists in the training service stream to promote, develop, and conduct internal and external training activities for the Dispute Resolution Branch (DRB). The training courses are in mediation skills and conflict management. There could be travel and work outside normal hours. The position would be expected to advance the DRB’s role as an expert in the delivery of mediation and dispute resolution training services in Queensland and the role will be required to generate income through training activities.

The Dispute Resolution Branch (DRB) is an innovative state-wide program, tasked with delivering accessible, low-cost, fair and timely non-adversarial dispute resolution services to the Queensland community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide positive learning experiences and experiential training for external clients, staff and mediators primarily based around conflict management and dispute resolution.
  • Develop, present, and evaluate training courses to government and nongovernment organisations, with the ability to market and tailor training programs for clients' specific needs.
  • Deliver culturally competent training to clients from diverse backgrounds including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Evaluate training participants' skill levels and write accurate reports regarding these levels.
  • Work in collaboration with team members, external trainers, and clients to meet training goals.
  • Prepare training resources, respond to training enquiries, and undertake administrative tasks as required.
  • Use a variety of technologies for communication, training, and daily work tasks.
  • Undertake other duties as identified by the A/Training Manager.

Qualifications, Conditions and Requirements

  • A Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or higher qualification in training such as a Bachelor degree or post graduate qualification or relevant work or life experience in training or adult education is highly desirable.
  • Minimum three (3) years' experience as a Nationally Accredited Mediator.
  • Two (2) years' experience as a trainer or coach delivering skills based training preferably in mediation, conflict management or communication.
  • A ‘C' class current Queensland driver's license will be required.
  • The applicant must be able to travel throughout Queensland with absences overnight as required
  • The successful applicant will have an opportunity to join the panel of mediators for the Dispute Resolution Branch.

Dispute Resolution Branch is comprised of the following teams:

  • Civil Dispute Resolution.
  • Child Protection Conferencing.
  • Adult Restorative Justice Conferencing.
  • Training.

The Training Officer reports to the A/Training Manager, Dispute Resolution Branch. The main office is in Brisbane CBD, with regional offices in Cairns, Townsville, Mackay, Rockhampton, Hervey Bay and Southport. The team consists of over 40 positions ranging from AO3 to SO level as well as over 100 casual mediators.
