ABOUT YOUR ORGANISATION

Dhina Durriti Aboriginal Corporation is a newly established Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation (ACCO) based on Dunghutti Country in Kempsey, New South Wales. Our name, Dhina Durriti, reflects our commitment to walking together with community—strengthening culture, connection, and self-determination.

We are passionate about creating culturally safe, community-led programs that empower Aboriginal people across the Macleay Valley. As a grassroots organisation, we prioritise local knowledge, leadership, and solutions that reflect the values and aspirations of our people.

Joining Dhina Durriti means becoming part of a team that is driven by purpose, guided by culture, and deeply connected to community. We offer a supportive workplace that values lived experience, respects cultural knowledge, and provides opportunities for professional and personal growth.

Whether you're an experienced practitioner or just starting your journey in community work, we invite you to be part of something meaningful building a stronger future for Aboriginal families and communities, together.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This position is a fixed term contract until 30 June 2026.

The Family Support Worker will provide direct support to vulnerable families experiencing or at risk of family violence through the Targeted Earlier Intervention (TEI) program. This position plays a key role in enhancing family safety and wellbeing by delivering culturally safe, client-centred support services. The primary goal is to build family capacity and resilience through case management, home visiting, skills development and effective referrals.

ABOUT YOU

You are a compassionate and motivated individual who is passionate about supporting families and children to thrive. You bring a calm, empathetic approach to challenging situations and are comfortable working with people with complex needs.

To succeed in this role, you’ll ideally have:

  • At least 1–2 years of experience in a support, casework, or community-based role (e.g. family support, youth work, child protection, or community development). We welcome applications from those with transferable experience and a willingness to learn.
  • A relevant qualification in social work, community services, psychology, youth work, or a related field (or working towards one).
  • Strong interpersonal skills – you’re a great listener, communicator, and able to build trust quickly with families and children.
  • An understanding of the challenges faced by families experiencing disadvantage, trauma or crisis – and a non-judgmental, strengths-based approach to your work.
  • Solid organisational and documentation skills – you're confident managing your time, maintaining case notes, and meeting reporting requirements.
  • The ability to work independently as well as part of a team – you know when to ask for help and when to take initiative.
  • A current Working with Children Check (or willingness to obtain) and a valid driver’s licence.

We’re looking for someone who is warm, resilient, and ready to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and families. If you're driven by purpose and have the heart to support others through tough times, we’d love to hear from you.

ADDITIONAL BENEFITS

We value the wellbeing and professional growth of our team. As a Family Support Worker, you'll enjoy a range of benefits that support your work–life balance, career development, and financial wellbeing, including:

  • Salary packaging options – increase your take-home pay by accessing up to $15,900 tax-free each year.
  • Time in Lieu (TIL) – flexible options to accrue and use TIL for any additional hours worked.
