At the NSW Department of Education, children and young people are at the centre of all our decision-making. We are the largest provider of public education in Australia with responsibility for delivering high-quality public education to two-thirds of the NSW student population.
The NSW Department of Education is committed to a diverse and inclusive workforce as an Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) employer. We encourage diverse applicants from a range of backgrounds to apply.
If you are committed to improving the mental health and wellbeing of young people, enjoy collaborating with diverse stakeholders and thrive when working as part of a dynamic team, then a career as a Student Support Officer (SSO) could be for you.
SSOs in NSW public schools work within the school community alongside the learning and support team and the school counselling service to enhance student wellbeing and learning outcomes.
SSOs support the implementation of the school’s whole-of-school approach to wellbeing, helping students develop social and emotional skills through targeted strengths-based programs and strategies that build resilience, coping skills and positive relationships. They also have a pivotal role in working collaboratively with external and other government agencies in their support of students and their families.
The NSW Department of Education is currently employing SSOs for ongoing full-time roles to commence in July, 2022, with additional positions being progressively rolled out across the state under a NSW Government initiative.
The salary range for this position is $65,160 - $95,539 per annum (pro rata for part time roles). The total salary package will include employer's contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading.
At the NSW Department of Education our aim is to support every student, every teacher, every leader and every school. We believe every student should be known, valued and cared for and have invested $88.4million over four years to provide every public high school with a full-time School Counsellor and a full-time Student Support Officer.
