This flexible and fast paced role is responsible for the coordination fundraising activities and initiatives to diversify and expand our donor base. You will have the chance to shape our new donor program, support events, reach out to like-minded people, and help give our community and allies the ability to support staunch anti-racism work in Australia.
This role will work closely with the National Director, Operations Director and other staff where relevant.
- Type of Position: Part time 3 days (0.6 FTE) Fixed term — Your employment is for a period of 6 months from the commencement date, with a possibility of extension.
- Remuneration: SCHADS level 4, ($85,120.36 FTE + super pro-rata), with excellent and flexible working conditions
- Location: Remote/Work from home from Australia
- Reporting: Fundraiser reports to the National Director (ND)
- Commencement: June-July 2025 depending on candidate availability

Democracy in Colour is an organisation that advocates for racial justice by identifying the various manifestations of racism in society and providing targeted and strategic interventions centring the voices and lived experiences of racialised and marginalised communities.

Key Responsibilities
- Work closely with the National Director to execute our organisational fundraising strategy to meet and exceed our fundraising goals.
- Plan and organise fundraising events and campaigns, to generate funds and engage donors.
- Monitor and evaluate fundraising activities, analysing outcomes, and making recommendations to the National Director for improvement to maximise effectiveness.
- Conduct thorough research to identify new funding opportunities and stay updated on current trends and practices in nonprofit fundraising.
- Work closely with the National Director to identify and cultivate relationships with potential donors, sponsors, and grant-making organisations.
- Maintain an accurate and up to date donor database and track all fundraising activities, donor communications, contributions and budgets.
- Assist with the preparation of compelling grant proposals and funding applications, ensuring alignment with organisational objectives and donor requirements.
Skills And Experience
Professional skills:
- Demonstrated experience in fundraising, including grant writing, individual donor cultivation, and event planning, preferably within the nonprofit sector.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Understanding of marketing and sales strategies.
- Experienced with donor management software(s) such as Action Network and Stripe.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the nonprofits sector and compliance regulations related to fundraising and donations.
- Strong networking abilities and access to numerous connections.
- Strong analytical skills, capable of interpreting data and metrics to drive fundraising strategies and measure success.
Personal skills:
- Deep understanding and commitment to racial justice and de-colonial values.
- Ability to think strategically and adapt flexibly to changing circumstances.
- Ability to produce quality work under time pressure and competing priorities.
- Can work both autonomously and as a team player.
